You can get into Canada for sure but double check about getting back to the US.
This reminded me of a trip that I took in Europe.
My late H was an officer and we had to do a lot of traveling while he was stationed in Germany.
We had an event to go to so another couple rode with us in our car. We get to the border to cross into Austria and the guards asked for passports, registration, and green card. We handed over the passports, the registration, and then my H asked me for the "green card". Uh....I don't have a green card, why would I have a green card? Only immigrants entering the U.S. have a green card I told him.
He insisted that I was given a green card.
I asked the couple with us, (the lady was German and she was married to an American soldier) can we use YOUR green card? My H looked at me like I had just grown horns. YOUR green card he kept telling me...well, I guess we won't be crossing the border cause I don't have one.
Border patrol told us to go forward about hundred feet, turn around, and come back to enter Germany.
Yep...we get to where the German troops are guarding the border, and what do they want?? They want MY green card too.

We are literally stuck between these two countries now. After much discussion, and pleading, they let us back in the country.
After we are settled back on the road, my H takes that opportunity to "scold" me about having all the proper paperwork when traveling. One of the most important things to carry is our
insurance card he says. Insurance Card??? I have the insurance card...you asked for my GREEN card...not the insurance card. I don't have a green card. The insurance card is in the glove box.
Boy...was he ticked!
It appears that the insurance card is the "green card". They call it a green card over there because it lets you
go into other countries.

Well, I guess I rambled enough. It just made me think of getting stuck between those two countries and no one was gonna let us in without that "green" card.
