In the case of a revenge affair, it would make me the moral equivalent of the OW.
That thought sickens me. Exactly....you would become what you detest. That wouldn't exactly be a benefit would it...to become what you loathe. Ahhhh...that's where the "revenge is like taking poison and expecting the other person to die" comment comes from. I see it now. My children did that stuff when they were young. I wouldn't allow them to go alone to the movies. The rule was that I went too...but I didn't sit in the same theatre. It showed 10 different movies in 10 different rooms. My daughter became all indignant and said...."then I won't go".....uh....okay. (I wasn't going for me...I was going for her) She thought she was punishing me by doing that. She didn't know how it worked I guess. committed

You think if Jeffrey Dahmer posted here that he was going to dice people up and put them in his freezer that he would have more of a chance of actually doing it or would talking about it release some of that anger? I think it would release some of the anger, personally. What if someone posted a fantasy about doing such a thing... and people posted replies with high fives and such... do you think there might be some troubled sick soul, some Jeffrey Dahmer, out there who might perceive that as a real option? Do you think if some troubled Jeffrey-Dahmer-type person did post on here, and received high fives and supportive comments, that he would be more likely or less likely to try the actions in RL? I happen to think he would be more likely. Such behavior tends to escalate. first comes "harmless" fantasizing; then "harmless" discussions... then "harmless" acting out on animals... You're blowing it out of proportion to suite your argument... Nobody "hi fived" anybody. Say your last paragraph is correct (for agrument's sake)...what is your better option for the Jeffrey Dahmer's of the world, if not for talking about their problems, whether it be a place like this (where we should feel free to do so) or counselling?

enough with the gender cr@p...and two, they are hurt men. What gender crap?? If it were women I would say women. You called them men yourself when you said they are hurt MEN. committed I've never read a post of yours to a WW to which you call them a lower calibre of woman.

Schoolbus,
I am not lumping medc in with the ones that are saying it.
People think things to exact revenge I'm sure.
They voice things that they would like to do to exact that revenge. I guess I consider the only thing left would be the act itself.
What productive thing comes of that?
I guess I am a little stunned by the comments of what things they would like to do.
committed And you should be shocked by them. So am I when I think about them.

A well thought out, planned, cold, calculating revenge is not only sweet, it can be beneficial to all involved. It’s been formally studied, even.
The arm-chair psychologists around here might call it closure.
A pragmatist might call it an excellent learning experience, for the recipient at the very least.
Revenge sex with OP’s spouse, or any member of OP’s family, does not fit the bill, though. A typical OP would never learn nuthn’ from someone else’s experiences.
The problem as I see it is the time and effort it takes to get far enough into OP’s head so the revenge is exquisite. And life-long. Not deadly, but mentally and functionally debilitating. Something they have to think hard about for the rest of eternity.
> “In the case of a revenge affair, it would make me the moral equivalent of the OW.”
No, Actually, It Wouldn’t. Different motivation entirely. Morality is all about motivation and intent.
What if we called it just-another-garden-variety-affair? After all, labels are everything to some people here.
What if it was done to get OP to go away? Stay away?
What if when OM shows up at St Peter’s gate and St Peter turns to me and says, “You decide this one” ?
What if, what if, what if only….. that’s all this thread is about.
Sheesh.

I see that word and I think of my late husband who gave his life for this country. He was a 24 year VET...2 tours in Viet Nam VET. It seems out of place to use it to describe me. committed

Well, as many edits that I have endured and you let committed just keep poking at us like the Energizer Bunny™ of trolling, I'm beginning to think there DEFINATELY is a double standard here.
