I'm trying to prove that two men are brothers, and I need some kind of document that shows it. I've paid over $200. for online searches, and this is what I have so far -

1. They both have the same last name, but it is very common
2. They both have the same father, with an unusual spelling
3. They both were born in the same small town 2 years apart
4. They both have the same relatives, but it doesn't say whether
the relative is a mother, brother, etc.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Maybe one of the Family Tree makers. Ancestry.com, Rootsweb also.
I'm sure there are others. I found my family by chance last week on a guys's website, I had worked with him and never knew we were related. This was not my primary family website, either.
If the father is deceased, you may be able to get his SS number, it should be the same for each one listed. Interesting stuff.

Hire a sleezy chick to get hair samples of each one of them and then get a DNA test run.

I'm not kidding.

This is a good idea, but don't hire a sleezy chick, hire a professional PI or someone you can trust. A sleezy chick may spill the beans on what she is doing. Of course this is assuming you don't want the two men to know what you are doing.

If either parent is deceased, check obituary for "survived by"

Or if parents divorced, their divorce papers may be public record which would list children of marriage.

OK, my brain stopped reading at this point and wondered what the difference was.

Do they want to know if they are brothers?

The parents aren't divorced or dead.

I've paid ancestry.com, intelius and ussearch. But I still can't prove they are brothers, except that they have the same last name, same father, born in the same small town and have the same relatives.

I don't know if you saw my question so I will repost. Do they want to know if they are brothers or is this something you want to find out?

If you know their ages, couldn't you go through birth records? Or if you can't get access to that, go through old newspaper birth announcements.

If it's for business purposes, why doesn't the company hire a P.I.? They do that sort of thing all the time...finding biological parents of adopted children, etc.

I have the birth register records. But it only gives the father's name.

Krazy - I have filed a complaint for waste, fraud and abuse through my employer. They found nothing wrong.

But I know it is happening, and am trying to get the proof I need.

The library should keep old newspapers in some form of archived format. Look up birth announcements where it says Sally and Bob Smith are proud to announce baby _____ for both men.

Tabby - I'm in California and they were born in North Carolina.

The problem I am having is that all of the search sites take your money and then don't deliver what I need.

Ok so that answers my next question, if you could get blood/hair samples!

You said they have the same father but did you mean they both have the same name listed on their BC? Sounds like you have STRONG links but nothing 100%. Did you check the local papers from the time of either birth for a birth announcement? If I think of something else I will let you know.
never mind about the last part. I see someone else suggested that.

Have you checked the county website where they were born?
What county in NC were they born in?
I know Mecklenburg has them listed.
