Barack Obama's former pastor has been cavorting with another man's wife, whom he romanced while she worked at a church in Dallas run by one of his disciples, according to a report in the New York Post.

Elizabeth Payne, 37, told the Post that she and Rev. Jeremiah Wright, 67, had a sexual relationship this year and that she was fired from her job when the affair was made public. Payne had been working at Friendship-West Baptist Church as a secretary to the Rev. Frederick Haynes III, a longtime Wright protege.

"I was involved with Rev. Wright, and that's why I lost my job and why my husband divorced me," Payne was quoted saying in Tuesday's newspaper. She said she has filed a wrongful-dismissal claim with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

According to Payne's estranged husband, Fred Payne, 64, Wright e-mailed Elizabeth Payne and told her he was going to leave his wife, Ramah, for her.

Wright married Ramah more than 20 years ago after he unsuccessfully provided marriage counseling for her and her former husband.

Fred Payne said members of the church, including Haynes, would not be pleased about the interracial aspect of the relationship.

"People wouldn't be happy to know that my wife was sleeping with a black man," he said.

Yeah, like "Was John McCain a member of Reverend Wright's congregation, too?"

They seem to share the same morals, when it comes to how to treat your spouse.

I heard some broadcasters talking the other day about whether or not this man should be an issue in the election and the common answer was "Yes"! If it would be an issue for McCain to be a member of a racist group and take advice from David Duke, then this should be an issue for Obama.

The issue is unlikely to sway many voters, since the exact same issue didn't stop Obama from defeating Clinton.

If issues like this are still valid, then more should be made of the fact that Palin's husband was part of a group who favors seceding from the United States.

If that's not anti-American and unpatriotic, nothing is.

I agree, so long as McCain's first wife, the Keating 5, and Palin's numerous less-than-legal activities are fair game, too.

Wonder if Ramah has learned anything.... if he'll do it "with" you dearie... he'll do it "to" you.

naughty

And this Payne woman? What an idiot!

I don't think this woman's affair with Wright has ANYTHING to do with Obama and it would be silly to try and hold this against him in any way.

I wish people would quit the mudslinging on both sides. Sheesh.

Obama doesn't need any help, he'll do just fine on his own merits in the debate tonight. grin

What about Obama's multiple connections with the guy involved in racketeering or something like that?

OK, who were the idiots who gave me these candidates to choose between? Get out here and let me tell you what I think!!!

I just found all this interesting that yet another "man of god" is responsible for so many marriages failing...yuck.

I just don't get how you can be so outspoken and put yourself out there like that when you have so many skeletons in your closet. ??

How can John Edwards be so confident that he wouldn't be exposed?

Gary Hart dared the media to follow him around...

What is WRONG with these people?

And totally off topic --

There are lots of reports out now that Obama is not eligible to run for president. There is a lawsuit filed by a democratic attorney (Philip Berg) that raises the question that Obama was really born in Kenya and his mother registered his birth in Hawaii when she returned.

Even if he was born in Hawaii, that his Indonesian adoption made him a Indonesian citizen (and lost any US citizenship because Indonesia requires renouncing any prior citizenship, they do not allow dual citizenship). And he was traveling and using his Indonesian passport as a 20 year old. There is no evidence of him obtaining US citizenship. So unless he filed and applied for citizenship, Obama is an illegal alien.

Rather than providing proof of his citizenship, Obama is seeking to have the case dismissed.

Can you say "swiftboat"?

This comes out now, less than a month before the election? What a coincidence, huh?

McCain is desperate, and it's showing.

Unfortunately for him, Obama isn't an uncharismatic doormat like John Kerry was.

Yeah! and puke

There was a similar snafu (sort of) with [censored] Cheney. Didn't stop him, though, did it?
