I know this is a marriage recovery board, but just wanted to start a thread for sharing and/or venting. Please, no direct political attacks on the candidates, that is not the intent.
I have to say I have been unnerved by this whole business. If anyone knows my sitch, I already lost most of my financial security so the small amount in my 401-K is all that is left. And it is going down, big time! I moved some around before the bail-out bill was approved and at that point I was down 17% for the year, I can't bear to look to see what it is now, don't have the stomach for it.
I find myself watching the financial cable stations, the news cable stations, checking the stock market during the day. I rarely did that before, at least not every day!
I don't think anyone really knows what to do. I seriously believe that we as Americans over spent, over consumed and under-saved.
I believe that most Americans want an instant fix, and instant high to this very bad low. We are used to being gratified and not having to wait.
I think if the powers that be keep throwing everything but the kitchen sink at this problem everyday as a reaction to the stock market, it will cause more harm than good in the long term. And of course I am angry at the greed, but I also believe there is personal/individual responsibility as well. I can say that my buying habits are much different than say 20 years ago. Look at all the 'stuff we are bombarded with everyday, electronics, cars, vacations, plus all the retail that didn't exist 20 years ago. Maybe it is time to get back to the basics, back to what we really need vs. want.
I don't want my children and grandchildren to pay for this because we didn't want to face it now.
Any thoughts?

I had nothing at the beginning of this so I'm not affected in the least bit.
The judge gave everything of mine away to WXW, he rewarded her for adultery.
So now is the time for me to start investing heavily as the market will eventually recover, leaving me a wealthy man when I retire.
As for the ones who caused this......

I don't watch the news too much because everything is made out for such doom and gloom. I don't think the current situation is even close to The Great Depression like some say...no comparison. Unfortunately fear drives the market just as much as earnings or anything else and right now too many people are going nuts and selling their brains out.
Losing money in my retirement funds sucks, but after this past year of the he// in dealing with my H's affair, the stock market fall isn't bothering me as much as it probably would have. If anything, we are looking at what is possibly worth investing in for the long term.

And the roller coaster continues.
The DOW up some 960 point today, shattering the record for one day.
The market up some 11% overall, about the 4th largest percentage gain in one day, ever.
Hold onto your hats, children. Could be lots of twists and turns and ups and downs before the roller coaster hits the end of the ride!

My husband just told me this too. Truthfully, FH, I've been trying not to even look. I just watch the gas prices as I drive down the road, and that's about it. Ignorance is bliss I guess.
I think we just have to hold on and try to ride it out.

Yesterday it was up over 900 points.
Why is only the doom and gloom reported?

Why is only the doom and gloom reported? Tragedy and mayhem sell? "Good news" is no news?
