Breaking News:

"The General Counsel of the Obama campaign Announces , "Major Action Taken Today" To Address Illegal Conduct and Improprieties in the Sham "Anti-Fraud" Campaign Orchestrated By McCain-Palin, the RNC and the White House."

Link to story HERE

I have no idea why you all are shocked by my opinions. I'm a Democrat. I've got my talking points and you've got your Republican ones. Your talking points and spin don't shock me one bit. Take for example, the post above by Melody. The use of the word "Authorities" is supposed to seem 3rd partyish and well, authoritative. It's not. The DOJ IS, moreso than ever, a political institution. It orders the "investigations" and the FBI does the investigating. It IS illegal for the DOJ to leak information about "voter fraud investigations" this close to an election lest such "investigations" themselves have any effect on the election. But then...what would be the purpose?

The point is this whole Acorn mess is paltry subterfuge by Republicans to disenfranchise voters in the name of avoiding voter fraud and, at the worst, a "best defense is a good offense" strategy to avoid or offset the "tin hat" conspiracists that believe Republicans massage actual vote tallies, electronically, physically (placement of machines and types of voting mechanisms placed like known unreliable punchcards with hanging chads in Democratic areas), politically (think Florida) and forcing provisional voting.

Consider this....Republicans don't want persons (perhaps all persons) that were registered in a home that was recently foreclosed upon to be able to vote. (I wonder why????) The post above only refers to a couple hundred or more questionable voter REGISTRATION cards that ACORN submitted in various states under investigation by "Authorities". There are WAY more people across this country that the Republicans hope to disenfranchise because they have been foreclosed upon. Which "strategy", if successful, do you think will actually more effectively result in a different VOTE tally? As long as the Republicans can keep your Fox News eyes fixed on the sham "Anti-fraud" Acorn campaingn...they'll just continue unabated doing whatever they can to suppress the vote and disenfranchise voters.

Mr. Wondering

p.s.- I'm not going to take the time to go back to look and research but aren't some or most of these "investigations by authorities" actually "investigating" fraudulent registration cards that were discovered by Acorn's internal quality control and pulled from the tens of thousands of registrations they processed PRIOR to submitting them to the state???? These illegal registration cards were mostly NEVER submitted to the state for registration...rather, they were turned in AS either duplicates or unconfirmed questionable registrations as Acorn is required to do by law. This makes things simple for the "investigators" as the "fraudulent ones" have conviently already by sorted out for them BY Acorn...just don't mention that they were never submitted as REAL registrations.

The Obama campaign announced Friday that it is asking Attorney General Michael Mukasey to turn over any investigations of voter fraud or voter suppression to Special Prosecutor Nora Dannehy.

Dannehy is also the special prosecutor recently appointed to investigate the U.S. attorney firing scandal.

Obama's campaign is hardly "selecting" anyone. Nancy was the special counsel Michael begrudgingly appointed to investigate the DOJ for illegal political activities. She's not a Democrat but, at least, she'd be on the record as solely responsible for the matter such that later, when the hoax is revealled she'll be accountable OR take action.

I'm okay with this...so long as it is investigated properly, it doesn't matter which special counsel completes the task.

If so, who decided this?

Let's see, the attorneys in the DOJ were fired because they were not doing their job and prosecuting those perpetrating voter fraud. Now the special prosecutor who is investigating the firing of these attorneys instead of investigating why the attorneys are not meeting their responsibilities is being asked by Obama to look into the ACORN allegations. Wow, Obama is more of a stinking swamp of corruption than I thought.

Hmmm, that is not what has been concluded by the investigation of these firings. It had nothing to do with performance, and everything to do with politics. Read the report.

Here is a sampling:

Quote
In addition, neither Sampson nor anyone else in the Department asked several of the removed U.S. Attorneys for an explanation about the complaints that allegedly justified their removal. As a consequence, the telephone calls from Battle to the U.S. Attorneys telling them to resign were stunning to most
of them. It is not surprising that the removals led to criticism from the U.S. Attorneys when the Department later stated publicly that they were removed for performance-related reasons after they had been told otherwise.

Quote
Sampson’s repeated assertion that “underperformance” was the decisive factor in the removal process was misleading. In fact, Sampson acknowledged that he considered whether a particular U.S. Attorney identified for removal had strong support from their home-state elected Republican officials.

This is just another attempt by the GOP to disenfranchise voters in an effort to sway the election.

There is a HUGE difference between "voter registration fraud" and actual "VOTER FRAUD." The McCain campaign trying to portray some grand scheme of Obama and ACORN plotting steal the election is laughable at best and maybe even found to be criminal.

Really how many times in the last 4 weeks has the GOP tried this stuff.

First, they tried to pin the current economic crisis on Obama and the Democrats.

Next, they tried to discredit him with his pastor.

Then, they tried to label him a "terrorist" by connecting him to Ayers.

Finally, they are making claims of voter fraud in an effort to de-legitamize the upcoming election.

All of these tactics have backfired on them. At this point, they have become "the boy who cried wolf." They used these red herrings because they couldn't campaign on the merits of McCain's plans for his administration. One example...Health Care. Almost all major business organizations have decried McCain's Health Care plans that would destroy the employer based health care system. Likely adding 20 million new uninsured citizens to the already 45 million we already have which would drive up insurance premiums and health care costs even further. It's an abismal plan and it's no wonder the McCain camp doesn't want to talk about it.

Well, it looks like that letter had the intended effect...to convince folks like you that alleging voter registration fraud is the crime of attempted vote suppression.

That letter that the Obama camp sent to Mukasey will be ignored by him, unless we really do live in Bizarro world.

All that really matters to them is that more than half of voters believe their deception.

Obama doesn't want to appoint a SP to investigate ACORN fraud, he wants it to investigate the investigation into voter fraud as vote suppression.

McCain's response:

“After a week of shifting stories and clumsy corrections regarding Barack Obama’s connections to ACORN, the Obama campaign resorted to their now-customary heavy handed tactic of attempting to criminalize political discourse. Today’s outrageous letter to Attorney General Mukasey and Special Prosecutor Dannehy at the Justice Department asking for a special prosecutor to investigate Senator McCain and Governor Palin’s public statements about ACORN’s record of fraudulent voter registrations (including in this week’s Presidential debate) is absurd. It is a typical time-worn Washington attempt to criminalize political differences. For someone who promises ‘change,’ it is certainly only more of the same.

“The letter’s request that the Department of Justice investigate ‘recent partisan Republican activities throughout the country’ is almost a parody of the Obama campaign’s attempt to intimidate their political opponents. In case Sen. Obama’s lawyer did not notice, we are in the midst of a political campaign, not a coronation, and the alleged criminal activity he calls ‘recent partisan Republican activities’ are what the rest of us call campaign speeches and debates. All of this is unfortunately reminiscent of the Obama campaign’s recent creation of a ‘truth squad’ of Missouri prosecutors and sheriffs to ‘target’ people who criticize Sen. Obama. Rest assured that, despite these threats, the McCain-Palin campaign will continue to address the serious issue of voter registration fraud by ACORN and other partisan groups, and compliance by states with the Help America Vote Act’s requirement of matching new voter registrations with state data bases to prevent voter fraud.”

Here's more about the letter Obama's team wrote that CNN left out of its piece:

"Robert Bauer, general counsel for Sen. Barack Obama’s presidential campaign, sent a letter to Attorney General Michael Mukasey requesting that special prosecutor Nora Dannehy add recent allegations of partisan misconduct within the Justice Department to her investigation of criminal offenses stemming from the 2006 U.S. Attorney firings.

In his letter, Bauer, a partner in Perkins Coie’s Washington office, accuses Sen. John McCain’s presidential campaign and the Republican Party of making false claims of voting fraud as part of a Republican effort to influence the presidential election, Republican officeholders calling on the Justice Department to investigate allegations of fraud, and possible involvement by Justice Department officials in spurring what he called “baseless” investigations."

I don't think that anyone is surprised that the democrats are acting as expected and instead of demanding a investigation of voter fraud group, ACORN, are circling the wagons around this criminal organization. And for good reason:

ACORN’s Political Action Committee Endorsed Barack Obama For President. “[A]CORN’s political action committee endorsed Barack Obama for President. … The endorsement reflects a belief that Obama – who worked as a community organizer on the South Side of Chicago – understands that change must come from the ground-up, as part of a working coalition, rather than from position papers.” (Katrina Vanden Heuvel, Op-Ed, “ACORN: Obama Gets It,” The Nation, 2/23/08)

Barack Obama’s Campaign “Paid More Than $800,000″ To ACORN For Get-Out-The Vote Efforts; The Campaign Originally “Misrepresented” The Group’s Work To The FEC. “U.S. Sen. Barack Obama’s presidential campaign paid more than $800,000 to an offshoot of the liberal Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now for services the Democrat’s campaign says it mistakenly misrepresented in federal reports. An Obama spokesman said Federal Election Commission reports would be amended to show Citizens Services Inc. — a subsidiary of ACORN — worked in ‘get-out-the-vote’ projects, instead of activities such as polling, advance work and staging major events as stated in FEC finance reports filed during the primary.” (David M. Brown, “Obama To Amend Report On $800,000 In Spending,” Pittsburgh Tribune Review, 8/22/08)

Barack Obama Directed Project Vote And Later Taught Classes For “Future Leaders Identified By ACORN And The Centers For New Horizons.” “In 1992 Obama took time off to direct Project Vote, the most successful grass-roots voter-registration campaign in recent city history. Credited with helping elect Carol Moseley-Braun to the U.S. Senate, the registration drive, aimed primarily at African-Americans, added an estimated 125,000 voters to the voter rolls–even more than were registered during Harold Washington’s mayoral campaigns. ‘It’s a power thing,’ said the brochures and radio commercials. … Obama continues his organizing work largely through classes for future leaders identified by ACORN and the Centers for New Horizons on the south side.” (Hank De Zutter, Op-Ed, “What Makes Obama Run?” Chicago Reader, 12/8/95)

• In 1992, Barack Obama Was Hired By ACORN To Run A Voter Registration Effort. “Indeed, Mr. Obama has extensive connections with the granddaddy of activist groups, Acorn (Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now), which has gotten millions in government grants for its low-income housing programs. In 1992, Acorn hired Mr. Obama to run a voter registration effort. He later became a trainer for the group, as well as its lawyer in election law cases. Acorn’s political arm has endorsed Mr. Obama while its ‘voter education’ arm has pledged to spend $35 million to register people this fall — despite a history of vote fraud scandals that have led to guilty pleas by many Acorn employees.” (John Fund, “Obama’s Liberal Shock Troops,” The Wall Street Journal, 7/12/08)

Barack Obama Was Part Of Team Of Lawyers Who Represented ACORN In A Suit Against The State Of Illinois. “Obama was part of a team of attorneys who represented the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) in a lawsuit against the state of Illinois in 1995 for failing to implement a federal law designed to make it easier for the poor and others to register as voters.” (Mike Robinson, “Obama Got Start In Civil Rights Practice,” The Associated Press, 2/20/07)
ACORN Received Grants From The Woods Fund When Barack Obama Served on The Board Of Directors

• The Chicago ACORN Received Grants Of $45,000 (2000), $30,000 (2001), $45,000 (2001), $30,000 (2002), And $40,000 (2002) From The Woods Fund. (Donors Forum Website, ifs.donorsforum.org, Accessed 6/10/08)

• NOTE: From 1993 To 2002, Barack Obama Served On The Board Of Directors For The Woods Fund. (Tim Novak and Fran Spielman, “Obama Helped Ex-Boss Get $1 Mil. From Charity,” Chicago Sun-Times, 11/29/07)

"In 1992 Obama took time off to direct Project Vote, the most successful grass-roots voter-registration campaign in recent city history."

Thank you for that acknowledgement.

As far as I can see, ACORN is a wonderful organization of mostly black community figures which is being attacked unfairly.

I see a three prong attack is with the intended effect to:

1. Suppress the inner-city and black vote. Challenge voters. Challenge registrations. Require driver's licenses. Force provisional ballots which they can challenge later (if they need to in a close election). Force LONG LINES at the polls but only in the Democratic polling places.

2. Innocuously place images like the video Marshmallow posted above with a large group of cheering exuberant black Americans swooning over "their" candidate in an attempt to prompt fear (read:racism) in white american moderate voters and certainly their white radical base. (i.e. - if you don't stop them they'll be running Washington with "their" agenda) when even close scrutiny reveals the video shows Obama saying "I'll be including Community Organizations in my agenda from the get-go" so he WAS inclusive of not ONLY Acorn but ALL community organizations...which is a GOOD thing and a breath of fresh air.

3. Distract undecided voters from the real issues and the economy...ANYTHING but the economy.

From what I heard. I don't think Nancy needs Michael's permission to undertake this investigation. I am much more concerned with illegal activities (i.e. - illegal leaks) in our Department of Justice (not to mention the illegal activities of the current Republican Administration in the last 8 years) than some $7.50/hour Acorn employee that turned in a couple bogus registration cards which were never submitted for processing to the Secretary's of State but rather turned in by Acorn after being detected by their internal controls process. I am certain that after 2004 and the politically motivated over the top-scrutiny that Acorn received back then that they were ready for this and made very few INNOCENT mistakes. When dealing with MILLIONS of registration cards, filled out at events, concerts, on the streets, etc. there are bound to be a many errors (like less than ANY secretary of state). However, REGISTRATIONS does NOT equal fraudulent votes. Republicans are focusing on the ILLEGALITY of filling out a registration fraudulently and trying to make it appear to be some concerted VOTER fraud thing. It's not. Not ONE VOTE has ever been shown to be fraudulent in 2004 and, none yet, in 2008.

Acorn is a worthy organization doing a noble service to this country. With their help, it is my hope, that this country can be taken back from the fumbling and devisive Republican party.

Yes, worthy and noble they are:

* In December 2004, in St. Louis, six volunteers pleaded guilty of dozens of election law violations for filling out registration cards with names of dead people and other bogus information.

* On February 10, 2005, Nonaresa Montgomery, a paid worker who ran Operation Big Vote during the run-up to the 2001 mayoral primary, was found guilty of vote fraud.

* Montgomery hired about 30 workers to do fraudulent voter-registration canvassing. Instead of knocking on doors, the volunteers sat at a St. Louis fast food restaurant and wrote out names and information from an outdated voter list. About 1,500 fraudulent voter registration cards were turned in.

* In 2007, in Kansas City, Missouri, four ACORN employees were indicted for fraud.

* In April of this year eight ACORN employees in St. Louis city and county pleaded guilty to federal election fraud for submitting bogus voter registrations.

* In the state of Missouri in 1986, 12 ACORN members were convicted of voter fraud.

* In October 2006, St. Louis election officials discovered at least 1,492 “potentially fraudulent” voter registration cards. They were all turned in by ACORN volunteers.

* Nevada authorities said Tuesday they raided the Las Vegas offices of the controversial voter-registration activist group, ACORN. Secretary of State, Ross Miller, [Democrat] said ACORN employees were suspected of using false names or addresses in their registration efforts, including the names of some former members of the Dallas Cowboys.

* A Cleveland teenager who claims he registered to vote 73 times over a five-month period has set of alarm bells among election officials in Ohio's most populous county. The bipartisan Cuyahoga County Board of Elections in Cleveland voted unanimously Monday to ask Prosecutor Bill Mason to investigate multiple registrations by four people, including 19-year-old Freddie Johnson. All four said they signed forms at the behest of a community organizing group, the Association of Community Organizations for Reform, known as ACORN.

* In Pennsylavania, the district attorney for the Pittsburgh area is investigating possible forgery and other irregularities on voter registration forms turned in by ACORN.

Apparently, this is "noble" in the democrat party .... crazy
