One of the principles on this site is honesty. I saw this quote today:

“Everybody talks by cellphone and the relationship evolves because you become increasingly distant from whomever you lie to, and you become increasingly close to whomever you tell the truth to.” said Dr. Pittman, the author of “Private Lies: Infidelity and the Betrayal of Intimacy” (Norton, 1990).

Dr. Pittman was talking about how cellphones, computers and texting, etc., were expanding the opportunities for infidelity.

My take-away from the the comment was how insidious secret liaisons can be because it damages the existing marital relationship at the same time it's building the illicit relationship.

Joni Mitchell wrote in a song that "love is touching souls." It appears to me that such a connection can only be based on complete honesty and full disclosure. I am being too idealistic?

Oh I used to be disgusted and now I try to be amused. But since their wings have got rusted,
you know, the angels wanna wear my red shoes.
But when they told me 'bout their side of the bargain, that's when I knew that I could not refuse.

And I won't get any older, now the angels wanna wear my red shoes.
