So I guess if it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, then it must be a duck. Hypocrisy really knows no bounds.

Palin The Wealth Spreader: Gov. Imp...ow Alaskans To ‘Share In The Wealth’

In recent days, Gov. Sarah Palin (R-AK), has begun referring to Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) as “Barack the Wealth Spreader,” referring to his proposed tax plan that would provide greater tax relief for lower income individuals than those with higher incomes. Obama recently explained his support for progressive taxation, saying, “I think when you spread the wealth around, it’s good for everybody.”

Palin contends that Obama’s characterization of his tax plan revealed him to be a “socialist” who wants to “redistribute” American wealth. Palin argues that the Obama tax plan “discourages productivity,” will “punish hardwork,” and will “stifle the entrepreneurial spirit.”

Watch a compilation of Palin’s recent comments about the Obama tax plan

Conservatives in the media have echoed Palin’s sentiments, insinuating that Obama is a “Marxist” and referring to his tax plan as “welfare.”

But Palin’s criticisms of Obama’s “spread the wealth” remarks are ironic, as she recently characterized Alaska’s tax code in a very similar way. Just last month, in an interview with Philip Gourevitch of the New Yorker, Palin explained the windfall profits tax that she imposed on the oil industry in Alaska as a mechanism for ensuring that Alaskans “share in the wealth” generated by oil companies:

So we share in the wealth when the development of these resources occurs. … It’s to maximize benefits for Alaskans, not an individual company, not some multinational somewhere, but for Alaskans.

In fact, Alaska’s Clear and Equitable Share (ACES) program, which manages the redistribution of oil wealth in Alaska, brings in so much money that the state needs no income or sales tax. In addition, this year ACES will provide every Alaskan with a check for an estimated $3,200.

Yep...that's every Alaskan including children. Which means the Palin's where paid $20,000 of this "welfare" last year.

As Hendrick Hertzberg notes, “Perhaps there is some meaningful distinction between spreading the wealth and sharing it…but finding it would require the analytic skills of Karl the Marxist.”

More on Palin's little Marxist/Socialist experiment.

Oil rights on public lands are leased to oil companies. The revenues generated on those leases are returned to the people living in that state. EQUALLY! The rich and the poor!
That is called capitalism and the money is a direct result of the free market enterprises and pre-arranged agreements.
Oil companies knew the cost when they agreed to the leases.

Socialism would consist of taking money from my income after years of college education and time invested to better myself, then giving it to someone that chooses to drop out of school, does not work or seek a better education. NOTHING EQUAL ABOUT THAT! Hence Socialism! UNEQUAL REDISTRIBUTION OF MY MONEY! Politicians playing Robin Hood.

Profits they are getting through higher prices at the pump that those of us in the lower 48 are paying. The point is that if there is going to be windfall profit taxes it should be to the benefit of the American people not just Alaskans. Moreso though, it was to poke holes in the whole Obama's a Socialist/Marxist debate. Raising taxes within our progressive tax system that has existed for 95 years hardly equates to such extreme labels or judgements.

There is a diffence in taxing someone for working and earning income versus sharing profits for a public resource (oil from public lands). That is like me working 12 hours a day to make 250K a year but i should share it with you b/c you stay home and don't work. This country was founded on people wanting more and working hard. Why don't we all just quit working a let the government share the wealth? When we do there will be no wealth to share!

When we as a society give up on capitalism by punishing those who earn more, we are compromising our system and are making a choice to take a step in the direction of Fascism or Socialism.

You can't take the incentives out of capitalism and still have capitalism any more than you can take the wet out of water and still have water....

I personally do NOT believe it is government's responsibility to correct economic inequality.

And when government thinks it IS their responsibility , I get worried.

I do not trust government to be an arbiter of "fairness".

All taxes are redistribution of wealth, and always have been.

Increasing taxes 3% on those that earn over $250,000 per year is not taking the incentive out of capitalism. If you are lucky enough to earn that level income you are still living a lifestyle greater than 95% of the country's polulation. There would still plenty of incentive to achieve that level of success.

The tax cuts that would be provided to the middle class would equate to dispensable income that could be used to purchase assets, start businesses, or purchase goods/services further fueling the economy. Something this country desperately needs right now. Likely benefiting and growing the businesses at the top of the tax bracket.

It's not a punishment, and socialism is already here.

Joe The Plumber says Alaska is already the prime example of a welfare state, since they get about 2 bucks back from the feds for every 1 tax dollar they contribute. Joe The Plumber says Long Live Federal Handouts!!

Gasoline in my area is at $2.37 today. Alaskans are paying anywhere from $3.27 to a staggering $7.25 per gallon.
