Here is some background info on us:

We moved to a new city a little over two years ago. At the time we were not married or engaged, but had talked about the possibility. Both of our jobs that we got when we moved here were awful. Truly bad situations. We both got new jobs-his worked out and mine didn't, so I had to find yet another job. I am finally happy where I am now. His job was working out great until about a year ago-then all kinds of trouble started. Nothing personal-just bad boss, bad working environment kind of stuff. I also got in a bad car wreck almost a year ago (to the day) and we have been dealing with resulting injury for the past year. Despite all of that we got engaged and married last year! We have only been married a few months now.

Here are the problems. My husband's job is really starting to wear-on him, on me and on our realtionship. Just about the time things start to seem like they are getting better they go from okay to bad again. It seems like a never ending cycle. I have tried to get him to find a different job a couple of times and he wants to hang on there so that he can finish his certification and then find something really good-and I understand all this-but at what point is it not worth it anymore? When it gets bad or he gets really upset about what is going on he gets depressed and is not motivated to do anything. He gets very moody and will get either get snappy or completely deflated. The most recent thing that happened is the company decided to merge several areas into one and have all of the work for those areas done at the local office (where my husband works). The catch is that they are also going to be consolidating the number of people and that everyone would have to interview for their job again, but there will be cutbacks they just don't know who or how many. They are supposed to have all decisions made by the end of January. He said that he thinks he will be fine and not lose his job, but he won't know anything for sure until the make the announcement. While he says he thinks he will be fine, he talks to me about it constantly and he has told me that he is really worried and he just keeps telling himself, and hoping and praying, that he will have a job at the end of the month. He has even made me promise that I won't spend any money except what is absolutely necessary (ie groceries, bills) so that incase he loses his job we will have some extra money. I try my best to tell him that we will be fine no matter what happens and that I have confidence in him and what he has done at his work so far and that I doubt he would lose his job after all the good things they have said about him, even though I am so afraid of even the possibility of him losing his job, I never tell him that. I have also told him that if he did lose his job we could make it work on my salary, and I know it wouldn't take him too long to find something else. I love him to death and our relationship is great otherwise-I really don't have any complaints. I just don't know what to do. Do I "encourage" him to find something else and be done with this awful place or do I support him staying there until he can get his CPA and find something else?

My only other gripe is that I have been wanting to go back to church. I miss being involved in church and having a church family and friends. We have gone to a church that we liked and I have wanted to go back and get more involved and he was all for it until the latest thing happened at his job. He told me this past weekend that he didn't want to go this week because he is too depressed about the stuff going on at work. I told him that is exactly why we need to go and get involved! I told him that we could use the support. We don't really know anyone or have any friends that we talk to on a regular basis or do things with other than each other. I am in desperate need of some friends-and I know he is too. I am a very outgoing, social person and I thrive on spending time with people. He likes hanging out with a couple of people here and there, but is more shy and not outgoing like I am-we are really total opposites in that way, so I know when he says he would like some friends (guy) to go do things with I know we are both feeling pretty isolated! My question about the church things is do I go even if he doesn't want to go with me? This would violate the "don't do anything unles you both enthusiastically agree" moto that is in the book "I Promise," but I felt really let down and awful about not going this past weekend. I wanted to be there for my husband, but I also felt let down because I asked him if he would go with me for me and he wouldn't even do it just to support me.
