from another discussion ....

Quote
"Ever been relentlessly lied to - or about - by someone? Ever been stunned to realize that someone in your life somehow behaves as though he's the center of the universe and everything and everyone else is somehow LESS? Ever come face to face with virulent narcissism? This book will help you understand. But beware: such knowledge comes at a cost. Gone forever will be any vestage of naiveté."

What happens when "the center of the universe" finds himself in the position where he is expected to comfort and tend to the wounds/pain of someone he has gravely harmed? What does such a person do when he has placed himself in position where he rightfully should be the recipient of outage and anger?

He UPs the ante - and make certain HIS personal crisis is more momentous, more serious, more urgent and requires (demands) immediate attention and care. He again becomes "the center of the universe".

Not that I think this is a conscious ploy - it is a real crisis - one guaranteed to thwart anyone else being the center of attention.

What does one do when their spouse makes certain that his needs are always more important?

ANSWER:
They sacrifice their needs.
