As many of you know, I'm a CPA. Here's an interesting story: FL Man Hires a Hitman for IRS Agent I hope they Butter up his Butt and put him in "Bubba's" Cell. Then track down all his offshore accounts and use those proceeds to reduce the federal debt. Then, when he is released in five years, hopefully with SEVERE prostrate irritation syndrome, they deport him to a third world nation, because that's where he belongs. You don't want to pay your taxes here? Go someplace else. Stop sucking in the benefits of this great nation. LG

Maybe we should all stop paying our taxes. What would happen?
My dad always said there was only two things you had to do in life, and that was pay your taxes and die.
I always believed him. But now I know he was merely a serf, just like you and me. Lost his soul in Nam, not his life, but his soul, which may be worse, but still he loved and believed in this great nation. Although glory never followed him home he would have done it again, and again, if asked.
He was a military man. A great man. An honest man. But a serf just the same.
It's completely unfair to the military personel who risk their lives to protect us. It's completely unfair to those of us who spend our lives paying taxes and trying to do the right thing.
I wonder how faithful he would be to this country had he lived to see the unfolding of corruption and greed of this past year and a half.
Have you ever figured out how much in taxes, unfair taxes I might add, that you and I will pay in our life time?
State, federal, local, sales, fees, double, triple, unfair taxation?
Go some where else, if we don't want to be a serf? I'm thinking about it, but for now I will make it my life's mission to pay the least amount of taxes I possibly can, legally.
These politicians are too stupid to get a good tax lawyer to save them money. They think they are above everything and everybody. Or maybe it is their accountants who are negligible.
If they knew, they are cockroaches, for sure. But what are we? Are we naive, stupid idiots for blindly paying ours and living like paupers, so we can save what little bit is left over after the government takes theirs? I don't know. I really need to quit reading the news for awhile.

What an idiot for thinking the audit would go away because he killed off the auditor. I know a lot of government auditors. It's a shame that crazy people like that can't separate the person from the job and thinks that person deserves to DIE for doing their job. The man needs to rot in jail. Forget the butter, just put him in with Bubba. He screwed taxpayers and now his family is screwed as well. Hopefully the govt can find the money. Wanna bet he got a stimulus check last year? :twobyfour:

I've decided I'm going to quit paying my taxes and get me a job and the Obama Administration.

OH: This line: I'm going to quit paying my taxes and get me a job and the Obama Administration. Well, that's why it has been in the news, right? Geither, Dashele, the mangement woman, the former Dallas Mayor. If they had never been nominated, the returns would have never been looked at. Weaves said it: "Death and Taxes are the only sure things in life" I don't like dead bodies. So I do taxes. I understand that the tax system in the country is complex. I can understand someone making an error. Heck, that's WHY there is a 1040X, to amend your return. That is what Wesley Snipes did. Didn't work out so well for him. Its complex because the CHEATERS keep coming up with new ways to cheat. I mean, the SERIOUS money is in the code, and the IRS and Congress keeps trying to put a lid on it. The guy who put the hit out on the FL auditor? Garden variety. Guys like him get popped every day. Many don't try to kill thier auditor. But most cheaters are too stupid to keep thier mouth shut. Like this guy. He bragged about hiding 3 million dollars. Heck, the IRS bounty is up to 25% of the amount recovered, if you drop a dime. The government needs its 25% of the economy to run. (soon to be about 32%, if Obama really wants to balance this thing..) States take another 5% and local govenments take 3-4%. Not withstanding all the indirect taxes that get paid during the year. I don't necessarily want a debate on this thread about where the money goes. I would rather keep it focused on the stupidity of tax cheats. Weaves points out how her Dad was a serf. No. He was just somebody who worked hard. Paid his taxes. Mowed his lawn. But never risked enough to move beyond serfdom. Its a choice. Not a criticism. Just a choice. LG

Weaves: A couple of points: I wonder how faithful he would be to this country had he lived to see the unfolding of corruption and greed of this past year and a half. Probably the same amount. He saw the Pentagon Papers. He saw the Savings and Loan Crisis, the Dot.Com boom, and twenty other injustices. Did shake his faith that this was still a great country. I agree with him. Go some where else, if we don't want to be a serf? I'm thinking about it, but for now I will make it my life's mission to pay the least amount of taxes I possibly can, legally. Dubai has some openings... They let the oil revenue pay all the bills. No taxes. Oh, don't show your face... Just kidding. I don't think people should leave the US. Only those who don't want to pay thier taxes. And for the second part, about the least possible taxes, the Supreme Court agrees with you. So do I. IN many respects, I believe that the HRBlocks and Jackson Hewitt's make it seem that "Your missing something that everyone else iss getting" I do not find that to be true. Sometimes, a new client will come in, and missed ALOT on thier return. Because they had no clue. But generelly, most folks do a fairly good job. I don't make money because I just prepared your return. I make money because I help you to get to better place in life. Maybe pay a little less taxes, do some better planning, and avoid blunders that can destroy your financial health. Example: Got a rollover from your IRA or 401K? Please don't just take the cash! Others abound. Taxes are going to go up. It's a given. The population is older, getting unhealthier, and not working as much. So, they will ask for those still working, healthy, and working hard, to just "pay thier fair share". Give me a break. LG

Todays Rant: Marion Barry's World Marion Barry has got to think that he is just made of pure sugar. The man represents what is SO WRONG about how the tax systems deals with cheats.. HE even states that the IRS disclosing the amount of taxes owed is "goes(ing) against prosecutorial conduct" Sounds like a cheat.... I picked this link because you can go to the original Washington Post article without signing in, and the professor is a serious nerd about taxes.... LG

LG,
You gave an example of taking your 401K out instead of rolling it over. I am assuming because of the 10% penalty.
Then you said our taxes ARE going to go up.
I wonder what my taxes will be when I retire. I know they will be more than I pay now.
If I left my 401K alone I would have lost way more than the 10% penalty plus my current tax rate last year leading up to and including the October crash.
In fact I did lose more, a lot more.
I took half mine out, because that is all I was allowed. I then invested it myself and in the last three weeks have made a substantial amount of money. If I had left it in my 401K, I am sure than whatever they made in this last rally they will lose once the stock market starts to decline again. How does that make sense? To do that with your money to avoid paying taxes now when you know your tax rate is going to be higher 20 years from now? I don't get it.
I know some of the baby boomers enjoyed like a 12 year bull run and did make out like bandits in their 401K's, but their are those who will not fare so well. Like the ones who didn't retire soon enough.
We were practically forced to contribute as much as possible into our 401K's for the tax deductions. Our government practically encouraged corporations to do away with pensions and go the 401K route.
We made a lot of people on Wall Street rich, not to mention the big CEO's of the companies our 401K's bought stock in.
And then we got royally [censored].
Now you are saying it is best to leave your money in a 401K.
NO WAY. NEVER AGAIN. I will gladly pay my taxes now, to avoid losing all my savings and paying higher taxes on what I don't lose in the future.
401K's are a scam. A way to make the corrupt corps and brokers richer.
I'll never trust anyone else with my money again.
You might see it entirely different than I do, but that is how I see it.
I could be wrong, but I have a serious distrust of 401K's. Everything about them. Letting someone else manage my money has turned out to be a very costly lesson and eye opener for me.

Obama's screw-u-lus plan is going to create a lot more tax cheats if he decides to whack the "rich" (whatever level of income that might be) just so he can fund his public experiments.
Don't get me started LG. I'm with you. Luckily, our taxes have been reasonable these past few years 'cause we don't have two nickels to rub together. But I live in a state that would tax your snot if it could find a way and it's aggravating. It's more than just income tax. Gas tax, tolls, use fees, registrations, excise, etc. etc. I don't mind paying my fair share but please don't ask me to pay everyone else's share too.

401K's are a scam. A way to make the corrupt corps and brokers richer. Disagree with you on this one. 401ks are one of the only ways I can reduce my current yrs tax bill. You don't have to put your money into anything aggressive. Even if you opt for the conservative 'fixed' and only earn 2-3% right now it's still something and you get the tax break as well.

There are going to be more people cheats regardless. People are hurting and tax receipts are down. The gov't raises taxes to put money in the coffers and people fudge their numbers because they are in bad shape finacially or they are plain sick of being told to bend over and cough up more money.
