Who doesn't like to eat a good meal, even while living through he!!? Come...read...share a recipe and a funny story. We could all use it. I'll start. My mother-in-law makes fantastic, stick-to-your-ribs 'taters on the grill. They're super easy and very yummy. What you need: Tin foil (extra width, please!) Potatoes Butter Garlic and onion salt Seasoned salt Chopped onions Milk Cheddar and Mozzerella cheese Spread a good length of tin foil on the counter. Peel and slice your 'taters as thin as you can get 'em. (If you have a mandolin then you're GOLDEN. I do this by hand and am thankful at the end that my fingertips are still attached.) Spread sliced 'taters on the foil. Sprinkle on about that much (4 tsp?) each garlic, onion and seasoned salt. Cut 4 Tbsp. butter into small pieces and scatter across 'taters. Sprinkle approx. 1/2 a medium onion, chopped, over the spuds. Bring the top and bottom (non-cut edges) of the foil together to begin to make a pocket. In to this pour 1/2 cup of milk. Seal the package and grill for 30-40 minutes until the potatoes are fork-tender. Open the packet and sprinkle on as much cheddar and mozzerella as you like. Cover the grill for 4-8 minutes and enjoy! We ate this with steak and fried onions and 'shrooms all the time and it' very yummy.

I'm down with the "dash of this, bit of that" crowd. My grandma cooked like that. **disclaimer** Take all of RooGirl7's recipes with a "dash" of salt where the measuring is concerned.

My favourite 'comfort' dinner
Steak, rominoff and marinated cabbage.
Finely shred as much cabbage as you want, place in a bowl and dress with juice of 2 lemons, 1 tablespoon of olive oil, salt and pepper to taste. Mix and let marinate, at least 1 hour
scrub as many potatoes as you need (to feed 5 adults I use 6 medium sized ones) chop into bite size pieces and place into microwavable bowl. Cover bowl with wrap and nuke until soft-ish (about 8 mins in my microwave)
In another bowl place chopped uncooked bacon (about 3 rashers) , 2 tablespoons of butter and nuke until butter is melted. Add enough plain flour to make a paste, then approx 1-1.5 cups of milk. mix in. nuke 2 mins, stir and nuke another 2 mins. If consistancy is too thick, add a little more milk. At this time also add 2 crushed garlic cloves and a handful of grated tasty cheese, the tastier, the better. Nuke about 3 mins. Pour cheese sauce over potatoes, sprinkle a little more grated cheese over and grill until top is brown and bubbly.
Cook steak to personal liking on grill. For us that is 4 mins each side and generously covered with cracked black pepper.
Serve all.
I love this meal,no real measuring, and doesnt involve standing over a hot oven.

OK HERE IT GOES:
Tiggy's Good god awmighty cheesy garlic bread:
you'll need 1 Stick of REAL unsalted Sweet cream butter 1 fresh clove of garlic 1-1 1/2 teaspoons of basil 1-1 1/2 Teaspoons of Oregano 4 dashes of parsley 4 Dashes of Rosemary 2 Teaspoons of kraft grated parmesan and romano blend Some Mozerella cheeze ( I prefer the soft Bochancinni mozerella you find in tubs in the store they are white balls in water...weird but good) 1 Loaf of your bread of choice (pugalese, ciabatta, dutch crunch, or sourdough go best with this)
Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
Let the Butter soften till it can be easilly blended with a spoon....either mince or press the garlic clove using a garlic press in to a small mixing bowl add butter and ALL the DRY ingrediants. You should have a wonderful homeade garlic spread(you can also put this over pasta and is makes a great butter herb sauce....add a little milk for a creamy sauce).
Length wise slice your loaf in half. Carefully split your garlic spread in half and smooth it over the now opened loaf.
Now depending on your cheese....Heavilly add your mozzerella (if you got the soft kind slice it and double up both sides).
Bake at 400 for 8-12 minutes....cheese should be melted and sides crunchy.
Let stand for 5 min before you cut...or cheese will all fall off.
look...smell...and manga to your hearts content.

lil - yum! I'm a big cabbage fan and haven't had it prepared that way before. That recipe will definitely be put into the cookbook. Thank you! hope - I'm sorry for the pain you're feeling. I don't know if you have a thread here where you can vent your feelings but if you don't, it may be an alright idea. Thanks for your recipe. I would bet many of the board members are familiar with it.

T2L took us to an "Australian" theme diner, and I can tell you it were not authentic Austalian. They dont eat as much cheese as you do either. Nor do they serve kookabarra.

Deep fried Camembert.
Take one whole camembert, lightly beat an egg and coat camembert with it, then roll in breadcrumbs. Deepfry about 2 mins or until camembert goes soft. Serve with cranberry sauce.

Best served on a plate with 2 forks, and someone you love.
Wine, grapes, candles and soft music are optional but recommended.

Quick easy Apple pie ala mode.... Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees. Using only 1 fuji apple cut it into slices Layer the bottom of a bread pan with butter....lightly sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar mixture. In a ziplock bag crush 1 whole packet of graham crackers until it is all small pieces. Take 1/2 stick of butter and nuke it in a bowl until liquified....in a mixing bowl mix the butter and graham crackers until it form almost a dry paste. Using a spoon layer the bottom of the bread pan with the graham cracker paste. Save a small bit and put aside. Next add a layer of apple slices....sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture add 6 pats of butter....repeat this until you are out of apple slices. For the top layer sprinkle with the left over crust mixture. Bake at 350 degrees for 10-15 minutes....when it starts bubbling thats your cue to take it out. Let cool for 5 min. Serve warm over 2 scoops of Vanilla Bean Ice cream. There ya go a Receipe without Cheese....if yu want some tho you could probally throw in some of the danish sweet cheese....would probally be good.

DD12's favourite dinner... Rissoles, spuds and salad
Make a good greek salad with tomatoes, feta cheese, lettuce, olives, dress with olive oil, S&P and balsamic vinegar.
Boil new potatoes with skins on until cooked. Serve with butter and fresh chopped chives.
dice one large onion, 3 tomatoes. In a bowl add 500gm-1kg minced beef (I think ya'll call it hambuger) one egg S&P and diced vege. Mix together with clean hands. Take a handful of mix and shape into patty. Fry rissoles or grill until cooked.
Serve all.
I should point out meat and milk is cheap for me so all my recipes contain alot of it
