More Irony For people that don't want to read the entire artcile the event could cause higher overall pollution than if we just left our lights on. When asked to extinguish electricity, people turn to candlelight. Candles seem natural, but are almost 100 times less efficient than incandescent light globes, and more than 300 times less efficient than fluorescent lights. If you use one candle for each extinguished globe, you're essentially not cutting CO2 at all, and with two candles you'll emit more CO2. Moreover, candles produce indoor air pollution 10 to 100 times the level of pollution caused by all cars, industry and electricity production. Didn't somebody say they lit a few candles and read a book?

Oh Boy!,
Don't get me started on this topic. Most of what is being espoused is NOT going to make the planet better, whatever that means. It will actually cost as much or more energy, which has to come from somewhere.

LOL ITA. One of the more articles that I read years back was about global warming on Mars and what we should do because it was SOLAR induced, not a man made problem. What?

tl The silver lining is it's helping the economy. Set house on fire, get new kitchen from Home Depot.

My husband just pointed out that unless you use beeswax candles, they are made out of paraffin, which you get in the process of oil refining. And if you use beeswax candles, there's all the gasoline used to haul the bees from place to place so they can, in the performance of their duties, make wax. Sounds like a win-win to me! :crosseyedcrazy:

Well, I'd just like to know who planned it for when it was going to be dark? Why not do it at 6:30 pm to take advantage of "Daylight Saving Time"? Isn't that the point of Daylight Saving Time?
Or what if they had done it for 6 am? Then, we'd all have an exucse to sleep in and put off the Saturday chores.

And who are they kidding with that Daylight Savings Time thing anyway? You have the same amount of daylight you always had... ..I wish they'd shift the time 30 minutes and LEAVE IT ALONE! Enough of that foolishness already!

I totally agree, Cinders. Now, I get up in the morning and turn on a bunch of lights instead of turning them on at 5:30-6:00. And it's not like businesses use their windows for light any more. When was the last time they built a manufacturing plant with windows?
