Bad or good economy, there's always ways to save.

Save for college: http://www.upromise.com/
Might as well earn some money buying the things you're going to buy anyway.

Kids eat free - various restuarants offer this certain days of the week. Other restaurants like O'Charlies offer that everyday.

http://www.restaurant.com/ Great deals.

Can pay for itself after one use.

Sunday paper grocery coupons...easy enough.

Add more. smile

Become a dairy farmer in NZ

Free milk, free meat, free house, free newspaper, free wet weather gear, free petrol, 25% of power and phone written off, education paid for by govt, above average salary

Downside... Long hours, Cow poo.

~Start cooking from scratch. Mac 'N Cheese and other prepackaged dinners DO NOT COUNT. I can make a VAT of spaghtti sauce (about 60 servings worth) for about 5.00, maybe less.

~Pack lunch for your kids, always.

~Buy groceries when they are at rock bottom prices ("loss leaders" combined with coupons) even when you don't need them. Stockpile these items for use when you DO need them.

~Shop to keep your pantry stocked, not for individual items or individual meals.

~GARAGE SALES rock!! I mean, they REALLY rock, AND it's tons of fun!!!

MrsW turnt me onto EBATES. Through them you can get discounts when you buy online. For example, whenever I buy stuff at Macy's online I access it through ebates so I get another 2-5% off my purchase credited to my paypal account. It also gives a list of coupon codes you can use to get free shipping, etc.

it is ebates.com

MF, I'm with you on the thrift stores. I have found fabulous things there. I think people have the impression they are all ratty and dirty which is not the case...you just have to find a good one. People give away brand new stuff with the tags still on and you can get NICE stuff. Consignment stores can be good too...even to sell your own stuff.

You could be wearing some of my stuff. laugh I donate all kinds of clothes, usually that are too small, or simply have not gotten worn, and yes with the tag still on!
I shop too in consignment stores and have sold a lot of my kids clothes in them. They are a great way to recycle stuff.

It's great to have an extra freezer. This allows you to stockpile on bread, butter, milk, veggies etc, there is actually a lot of food that can be frozen.

Rather than buy pieces of meat, buy 1/2 beef/pig from the butcher or local farmer. Works out to much, much less per lb.

When vegetables are in season, I freeze em'.

Farmer markets have by far the best prices on produce.

Installing a rainwater catchment system and a wind turbine. By this time next year we hope to be selling electricity BACK to the city.

I never had to take the Kobayashi Maru test until now. What do you think of my solution?

Just saw a segment on the news last night about people living near wind turbines c/o headaches, anxiety and muscle aches.

I think they are great, good for you for having one.

The ones for private use are very small, Vittoria...

You should see the the commercial ones. The company I work for does ecological studies on the wild life around the commercial ones.

They

Are

Ginormous!

LMAO at LilDoggie. Cow poo is MUCH more pleasant (I think) than meat eating animals....I don't mind cow or horse stink (unless they are sick).

Think we could talk the Wookie into moooo-ving to NZ so we could be dairy farmers?
