Hmmm, no 2x4s? Y'all would certainly 2x4 me if you knew all the DJs and grumpiness I was feeling because I thought *he* wasn't being nice enough to *me* in the morning.

Hi Jayne, thought of you this morning. I was on the phone with H. He is meeting a local recruiting/consulting firm about a local assignment. To put it in perspective, most interviews he’s ever been on, he gets the offer on the first interview. He wants new shoestrings for his dress shoes, and called me on my way in to work on the cell to brainstorm with me where he could get them this morning. I suggested Payless, and was saying I don’t know whether they carry shoestrings or not, and he interrupted to ask when the mall opened. He interrupts me every day, and I’m not always O&H about what a kick in the teeth it feels like. But today, I found myself feeling upset, asked myself what the problem was. It was that I wasn’t O&H about that. So I called him back and shared. He didn’t remember, but he apologized, which I appreciate but wasn’t necessary. It’s not just the interrupting itself. It’s that he has a pattern of not listening to me, just thinking himself and then interrupting. I have told him many times that I feel ignored when he does that, and asked him to please let me know when he is not listening, so I have the information I need to decide whether I still want to talk to myself or not. Reading this back, I already know to wait until I have his eye contact before talking if my point of talking is specifically to communicate with him. So given the information I do have already, if I pick up the phone, it’s agreeing to talk without being listened to.
So anyway, I thought about you, jayne, and what you said about your H taking so long to talk. I think I shared with you about one of my brothers and about my DD8. That they need a moment of silence to put their thoughts together, so we do wait for them to talk. I am wondering if you and your boys are making an effort to pause on the conversation to give your H the opportunity to contribute. I am wondering if he feels kicked in the teeth, interrupted and cut off, that no one listens to him. That no one wants to listen to him. That he isn’t worth slowing down the conversation to listen to. I am not DJing that this is likely the case, jayne, I’m asking you for clarification, is this the case?
And yes, Happy Belated Birthday Mr. Jayne!

Hmmm, GREAT food for thought!
Today is really hectic but I'll be thinking about that. I'll respond later, along with the details of my confession re. DH's B-day.

Oh and jayne, by the way, can I tell you something funny! He doesn’t always interrupt me, just sometimes he gets distracted, like with work, or this morning, an interview to be ready for. Not about me! We had lunch, and he did listen to what I was saying. So I thought it was really funny, how this morning, I viewed something as an every day thing, and later the same day, I see it as something limited, which probably has a simple solution we just hadn’t thought of but may well think of tomorrow. Or maybe I just needed to be O&H with him and it’s already over, who knows?
I look forward to your update!

Also jayne, are there specific situations where he talks more? Like maybe at work, reading to the kids, showing them how to do something, on the phone with his mom or dad, something like that?

Ok, here I am...
I guess I got some splainin to do Loosey. (think Cuban accent)
Things have been hectic, it's the end of the semester, it's winding down but I have a little room to breathe and update.
First, about the birthday - I'm not good with birthdays, and I'd been afraid I was gonna forget it because both he and I had some trips coming up and we just barely happened to both be home on his birthday. But then on his flight back a flight was canceled and he was stuck in Denver overnight, and so didn't get home until the following afternoon, and I had to deal with kids and scouts and a sore back and fighting off what almost was a sinus infection and a dog with diarrhea from our little trip, plus a million things at work. I think if his flight hadn't been canceled and he had been here to share the FC stuff, I would've remembered to plan something for his birthday which was the day after he actually returned.
He seemed to handle it ok at the time. We went out to eat to a restaurant we recently discovered, and then we had SF after the kids were in bed. A couple days ago I also got him a DVD. He said what he wants is a stereo system for the house, and believe me, he does NOT want anyone else to buy it for him. So there isn't really anything I can do there, unless he wants me to listen to him talk about stereos and go shopping with him or something. Which I'm willing to do but he hasn't said anything about it yet more than just saying he wants one. I'd rather make a budget and save up for one, and I may have replied something like that, which may be why he hasn't said very much about it.
I should tell y'all why I was grumping at him, so y'all can 2x4 me. But I'll do it in a separate post.

Oh great, I finally decide to update, and I see there's a really interesting um... disagreement? soap opera? whatever... going on to distract me and possibly any potential 2x4'ers.
So I'll just hafta 2x4 myself.

Ok, I'm having a Stella moment I think. LOL A series of free-association posts... No offense intended Stella! Your new name kills me! Bubbles! Every time I see it, I think of champagne, or 7a&b blowing soap bubbles. I gotta get me a new nick. See, this is ever so much more fun than fessing up to my faults.

Ooh! Ooh! My H is a home electronics expert, in the business for over 30 years, a bit of a consumer electronics genius! Have your H call him before he buys anything! I'll get you my email later.

Ok, cool! I think at one time I did have your email... I was gonna snailmail you some Dave Ramsey stuff (LOL at first I typed Dave Barry!) but we were in the midst of selling TWO homes and moving and job hunting and school hunting, so never got around to it. They're somewhere boxed up now.
