Geocaching is a great way of getting out of the house and seeing places that you may never have known about, for example Lil and I went to a mountain stream which we had heard about but never visited, a truely wonderful place that we could have missed out on. We also had a great day together.

If you and your spouse are looking for something to do together and you own a GPS and have an internet connection then Geocaching could be for you.

Geocaching is, in very simple terms, a treasure hunt or scavenger hunt using a GPS and a computer.

Geocaches are hidden all over the world, in cities, in the forest, even on remote tropical islands. A cache often takes the form of a tupperware container or an ammo box and will contain a logbook and a pen as well as a number of small, generaly cheap, swapable items, small plastic figurines and toys, key rings and trinkets.

Useing the internet site geocaching.com you search for geocaches that are near to your home (or other location that you are going to be at) then you download, or write down the co-ordinates for the caches that you are going to go and search for. Your GPS will guide you to the cache site and then you start looking around for the cache, the cache will be hidden so that it will not be found by passers-by accidentally. Once you have found the cache you write your name in the log book and, if you want, you can swap an item from the box as well.

In short Geocaching is a great "get out and have fun" activity, you can easily incorporate it into almost any other activity.
