This is a really good and simple recipe I got when I was in a high school cooking class. It's been a tradition in my family at Christmas time for many years:

CHEESE BALL/LOG

One 10-oz block of extra sharp cheddar cheese, grated
One 8-oz package of Philadelphia cream cheese (regular, not reduced fat)
1/4 cup of sour cream (regular, not reduced fat)
1 Tablespoon of finely chopped onion
1 Tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce

Finely chopped nuts (I use walnuts).

Incorporate all but the nuts by hand and shape into balls or logs, then roll in the chopped nuts. Seal each ball or log in plastic wrap and refridgerate.

I double this recipe and have plenty for taking to parties and for our own enjoyment at home.

Regarding the nuts: I usually end up buying a 2-cup bag of shelled nuts for a double batch, and there is always plenty left over, so you would probably be able to get by with buying a lesser amount.

We make a similar one for Christmas in our family.

One 8-oz package of Philadelphia cream cheese (regular, not reduced fat)
1 small package of chopped beef chopped finely
1 small finely chopped onion
6 drops of hot sauce
1/4 teasoon garlic powder

Mix it all together (with your hands of course), refrigerate for a little while and eat on crackers.

I ususally make a double batch mysellf when i make it and it is delicious.
