fed-up: I don't know much about your story as I am a relative newcomer here. I do want to say I am very impressed by your strength and am hoping all the best for you.
The reason I am posting this as a new thread is I didn't want to detract from yours by asking this question. You said you lost your hair during this horrible experience - and it is now finally growing back. I have lost and am continuing to lose my hair (seems like about 50%) and it has not come back and continues to shed.
Would you mind sharing with me some of the details of your hair loss?
- how long after disclosure (the traumatic event) did your hair shedding begin?
- were you diagnosed with telogen effluvium?
- did you use any treatment like rogaine, tagamet or aldactone?
- how long before your hair stopped shedding?
My time line is:
- late January 99 H filed for divorce and said he was leaving (big shock to me!)
- mid March 99 H disclosed affair but refused to provide any details
- mid May 99 - H told me who ow was and length of affair (one yr. w/coworker)
-mid June 99 H disclosed more details
- late July to present: hair started falling out
- Sept. diagnosed with telogen effluvium (hair loss following severe emotional distress) Started rogaine treatment
Like you I also lost 50 pounds. H and I are doing well but still on a rollercoaster as ow doesn't have the decency to leave his business.
Any help or info. would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
simone
Hello Simone, I am responding for my wife, she doesn't have internet access and I am reading the responses to the posts as well as your post. She wants me to tell you that she won't be able to respond until Mon.

Mater - Telogen effluvium is when a sudden severe emotional distress (death of loved one, divorce, job termination or you know what) causes noticable shedding of hair 3-4 months and sometimes 5-6 months after the stressful event. The hair loss is always delayed. Did yours just start to occur? If so, it could be from the trauma and stress of learning of the affair. You asked where to get a diagnosis. First I went to my primary care doctor and he said (while chuckling) "you're not going to like this; its probably just hereditary and comes with aging". This (androgenic alopecia) is the most common cause of hair loss in women. I didn't buy it as no one in my family ever went bald or had marked hair thinning, and the shedding was so dramatic. I then went to a dermatologist who treats women with hair loss. That is where I got the diagnosis. A web site with more info is www.morehair.com/hair_loss_telogen.html
I am hoping you don't have this - it sucks. It is also certainly adding to the stress and anger that my h's choice in the way he dealt with his unhappiness in our marriage has this consequence too.
Do you think you have TE? While I hope you don't, it would be nice to have someone else to talk to who is experiencing this.
Simone
