You know not to discuss exposure to him at all, right? Not even a mention or hint...

no, I haven't. I did say that if he couldn't end the communications, that eventually we would have to separate, but that I didn't want that. He doesn't want that either...he told me it scared him to think that he might go back to her if he didn't have me around to make sure he did what was right.

he told me it scared him to think that he might go back to her if he didn't have me around to make sure he did what was right. Which is WHY this needs exposure to the church elders. Allow the church to do what it is supposed to do. GUIDE your WH.

In fact, don't try to "educate" him about any of the things that have been talked about here...or convince him that NC needs to happen. Since he is foggy, that will all just be a lovebuster to him.
However, you can let him know how painful contact is to you and that you are hopeful you two can rebuild a wonderful M as long as NC happens...or words to that effect...

Thank you guys for telling me what I need to hear. I guess I'm afraid it would be like making drastic demands on him right now when he's trying to do what's right, even if his attempts are feeble at the moment. I'm also afraid he'll just think, "What the hell? People will judge me and think the worst of me forever anyway." and give up on trying to make it right. During one of our conversations about contacts, his reply was, "I stayed, didn't I?" I do feel like he's trying to have "the best of both worlds" so to speak.
I guess I'm just not sure how long I need to give him to try to make it right, before I make the demand to end it, or I'll have to tell others to get the help we need. I think in the Surviving an Affair book, one person who worked with Dr. Harley had a 6 month time limit. However, in that case, I believe others knew about the affair. Asking your H to be faithful to you is not a drastic demand. And yes, you're right - he does want the best of both worlds. It's called 'cake-eating' and it will eat you up if you allow it. You can't make your WH end the A. He has to decide to do so. Exposure will hasten that decision. Don't let him manipulate you into keeping his dirty little secret. If you truly want to save your M, exposure will help you to accomplish that. Right now you and your WH are refusing help from a great source - your church family. No one expects a Christian to be perfect. Christians are just sinners who've found Christ. Other than that, they're human like everybody else. If there is a Christian in your church who sits in judgment of your WH, well. You know what the Bible says about judging others, right? If I give your WH the benefit of the doubt, I'd say fear is the driving force behind his reluctance to let anyone know about the A. But my less-naive mind tells me that he wants to continue with things as they are, which includes continued contact.

Phoenix, your WH is a lost sheep. Inform the shepherds (the church) one of their own is so, so lost.
What does the parable of the lost sheep signify?
The parable of the lost sheep was told by Jesus when the Pharisees criticized Him for socializing with sinners. Through this story of compassion, Jesus revealed his rescue mission for sinners.
Then Jesus told them this parable: Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Does he not leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it? And when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders and goes home. Then he calls his friends and neighbors together and says, Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep. I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent (Luke 15:3-7).
The parable begins with a straying sheep. A sheep apart from its shepherd is defenseless and in grave danger. Jesus views any person apart from Him as lost. How is he lost? His sins alienate him from the holy God, leaving him groping aimlessly in darkness. So justice is far from us, and righteousness does not reach us. We look for light, but all is darkness; for brightness, but we walk in deep shadows (Isaiah 59:9).
The shepherd in the story, however, didnt despise his straying sheep. With a heart of compassion, Jesus also values each sinner the Father entrusts Him:
And this is the will of Him who sent me, that I shall lose none of all that He has given me, but raise them up at the last day (John 6:39). Jesus is intent upon rescuing the sinner not only because the Father gave them to Him but also because He loves them. His love led Him to sacrifice His life on the cross to take their punishment for sin.
The parable of the lost sheep also illustrates Christs attitude toward the saved sinner. The parable gives no indication of the shepherd ever rebuking or chiding. Instead, he hoists the sheep upon his shoulders and takes it home. An adult sheep may weigh anywhere from 110 to 125 pounds; it would be no small effort to carry one over the shoulder. For joy over finding that which was lost, the shepherd bears the discomfort. Likewise, Jesus bore the weight of our sins upon the cross. As High Priest and Mediator, He continues to bear our cares and infirmities before the Father. He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness. . . . For you were like sheep going astray, but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls (1 Peter 2:24-25).
Finally, the parable of the lost sheep offers an extraordinary glimpse of heavenly emotions. The shepherd calls his friends and neighbors together, saying, Rejoice with me. The rescue of the lost sheep was a cause for proclamation and celebration. Similarly, Heaven rejoices when a sinner repents and is restored to fellowship with God. This joy is cheerfulness; it is calm, considered delight. It is a deliberate emotion -- houghtful and sustained. This is not a picture of raucous dancing and carousing but of lasting pleasure and heartfelt satisfaction. Why? A sinner has come home! Such news delights the heart of heaven.
Since the beginning, God has been the Good Shepherd who rescues His lost sheep. When Adam and Eve were hiding in shame because of their sin, He sought them out. Yes, He disciplined them. But He promised a Rescuer. Until Christs death for their sins, He forgave them by their faith and covered them with animal skins. God still reaches out for the lost to cover and recover them through the blood of Jesus Christ. this is the source: http://www.allaboutjesuschrist.org/parable-of-the-lost-sheep-faq.htm A sheep apart from its shepherd is defenseless and in grave danger.

Pepper, you are so right. I'm so worried about him, and I don't want him to be lost forever, if he continues in this relationship. He's afraid of the same thing. I should have done this at the very beginning, but I was afraid. I know now what I need to do. It doesn't make it easy, but I know. Thank you so much. Please all of you pray for me to be strong and for him to understand that I'm trying to help him.

""They did meet up and were intimate many times. She would even drive down to be with him at his work when he worked "late nights"... He told me he's addicted to her, and has felt like their relationship was a "soul mate" kind of relationship. He is still in the grieving period,"" ""A huge part of the reason is that we're both Christians and are heavily involved with our church family.....My husband always seemed strong in his faith, and actually taught me the gospel.""Excuse me a minute.. Sorry about that I uhmm ...""There are so many people we've influenced in the past to be Christians and others who are in the process. It would be devastating and harmful to those relationships, I know. Also, my husband fears that it would harm our relationship beyond repair for everyone to know.""Aww jeez, just a How about the vows your H made to God on your marriage day? How about that one of the 10 commandments, you know, the adultry one, I think it is. Why your H does not burst into flames upon entering your church is a miracle!! Maybe some of the true Christians here in the halls of MB can take up this crusade, but for your WH, confession will be very good for his soul...because he is in the devil's domain right now....is he not?? Don't you agree?? imho kirk

You can do this Phoenix! We will help you along the way. Keep coming back here and posting and we will help you. Do not tell your WH about this site just yet and do not show him your thread. You don't want him here quite yet.
And, whatever you do, do NOT warn him about exposure in advance. Do not threaten him with it again. Just do it.

More on the exposure, phoenix, in case you are overwhelmed or haven't read this yet.
Make a list of who to expose to, such as parents, in-laws, siblings, close friends&family that support your M, OW's family, FB friends (post it here and we can help you) and go down the list and try to get it done in one day if possible...
Hang in there!

So, it's done. I called 2 people that I felt would be the most loving and helpful for him right now. One has already come to the house to talk with him. It really was hard, and I guess I need encouragement. I feel like he hates me now. He said he feels like I betrayed him, and is very angry. He won't even look at me. I feel so bad, but I needed to do this. My heart is aching.

He feels YOU betrayed HIM!?
Expose to more people! He needs to feel the consequences of his decisions.
One year becomes two, two years becomes five, five becomes ten and before you know it, you've wasted your whole life on a problem you can't solve. That's one way to spend your life. -rwinger
I will not spend my life this way.

I feel like he hates me now. Mantra this:Feelings are NOT factsHe said he feels like I betrayed him, and is very angry. Every wayward says this. It's deflected guilt. Don't buy it. Calmly say, "Yes. Adultery causes so much damage. That's why God hates adultery." He won't even look at me. He'll come around. Don't you worry.I feel so bad, but I needed to do this. Feel strong. That's what you are. Bear discomfort, and comfort will come. And the cause is WH's adultery. NOT exposure.
Never forget that fact. ADULTERY is the evil thing here. Not truth. That is a fact, not a feeling.
Feelings change. Truth is what matters.

Great job Phoenix! You have started executing a Plan that gives you the best chance at recovery. This is not for the faint of heart. This is tough stuff. Stay strong and please keep executing the plan. Pep's post is perfect and bears repeating. Read it again and again. It is right on the money. Don't think for a second that your WH is acting any differently then any other WS because he is NOT!! Don't you find it insulting that he feels that you betrayed him after what he has done?!?!? Do not listen to his anger. Just tell him you are doing what is necessary to save your marriage and to get onto a path to recovery. Keep coming here often. The board slows down quite a bit on the weekend but keep reading. Read other threads. You have much to learn. Mindshare

James 5:16 - Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed.
People in sin (wayward infidels) often seek ways to justify continuing in the conduct. Usually by placing blame on someone/something outside themselves.
Some conduct God has decreed to be sinful, and He requires that we not accept it in ourselves or in others.

He told me he's addicted to her, and has felt like their relationship was a "soul mate" kind of relationship. I don't know what denomination you are, so I looked this up on Focus on the Family.
Please read: Searching for a 'sole' mate and the following page: Soul Mates or 'Sole' Mated? I think it is pretty important that your WH's fantasy of a "soulmate" - based on how OW makes him FEEL - be exposed for what it is. An idolatrous pursuit. And a sin.

I feel so bad, but I needed to do this. My heart is aching. Pheonix, you've done the right thing. Y'know, I got exposed (partly) when my OW's husband found her out. (He'd hired a PI to snoop on her, because he'd become suspicious of her behavior during our affair as well as a previous affair she'd been in.) Once my OW made me aware of that her husband knew about us, I knew right then & there that I had no sane choice but to break off my affair, come clean to my wife & start trying to save my marriage. At the same time, back then, I looked on his snooping on her as an underhanded thing for him to do. (As if his wife's & my cheating together was in any way upstanding, LOL.) But a few months down the road, I came to realize that being exposed was actually the kick in the butt I needed in order to drag myself out of the gutter I'd been in for 10+ weeks, and to refocus on my wife & our relationship. Being exposed turned out to be a huge GIFT for me. God only knows how much more messed up I'd have gotten if I'd stayed in the affair... I could've lost my wife (who is also my best friend), my kids, my home, my self-respect, my best friends, basically everything that matters. I don't just owe the other woman's (now ex-)husband an apology; heck, I owe him a THANK-YOU note, for goodness' sake. I pray that the scales will fall from your husband's eyes and that he will begin to be able to see straight once again, and soon.
