I live in NoVa, Chris. I think I mentioned that when you first came to MB. I was one of the first who welcomed you.

I just finished sending off an application to a Fortune 100 company (might as well start at the top, eh?).

Truthfully, I'm glad to be out of that last job, just as I've come to realize that I'm glad to (almost) be out of my marriage.

Thanks for your sentiments.

Fred USA Jobs is an excellent site for Federal Jobs. You can set up searches and receive emails with job postings DAILY. I got my job that way, my H did as well.

All the Feds are hiring using that site.

Please do not go to sleep tonight without registering there & setting up your job search bots.

Very serious.

Actually, Iceland has worse economic woes than we do.

And with a population of only 300,000, there aren't a lot of jobs (unless you count fishing) available.

One nice thing about being out of work right now is that Spring has definitely sprung! It's like having the vacation I never took for the past 15 months!

The cherry blossoms are blooming in D.C. and the temperatures for the past couple of days have been in the 70s. And it's going to be like this for the next five days or so.

With no work to do, I went out and bought flowers for my hanging planters and herbs and vegetables for the garden my daughter and I will be tending this year. I repotted petunias into hanging baskets and planter boxes, went to lunch with my daughter, then transplanted the vegetables and herbs (cherry tomatoes, bigger boy tomatoes, chili peppers, cowhorn peppers, oregano, dill, lavender, basil, iceberg lettuce, cilantro). Then I went for a one hour bike ride.

I still need to buy and plant cantaloupes, radishes, cucumbers and scallions. But it was a good start.

There's a lot of symbolism in all this: It's Easter weekend. I'm planting a garden, I'll be finding new work and starting a new life without The Leopard.

Spring really *IS* the season of rebirth!

In Denver it's risky to put anything in the ground or containers before Mother's Day. Our growing season here is 2-days less than Duluth.

Sorry about the TJ, Fred, but chrisner, I have a topic in Other Topics I'd like your advice on, as I'm planning on moving to Denver soon.

A man who gardens. WOW.

Well if you have a large garden you'll be spending less on food.

One year becomes two, two years becomes five, five becomes ten and before you know it, you've wasted your whole life on a problem you can't solve. That's one way to spend your life. -rwinger

I will not spend my life this way.

Sounds great. It is definitely a good thing to start all these and feel so much in hope of a new life. I think you will live a much better life in the future. Best luck and Happy Easter!

I went to dinner with a number of people and then to a meeting afterward, both in celebration of a friend's 43rd A.A. anniversary (my sponsor is also his sponsor). A number of folks I hadn't seen in a while asked me how I was doing. I told them about my day.

These are people who genuinely care for me, and I for them. A number of them were very pleased that I was actively moving forward in my life.

"What's the alternative?" I asked one. "Should I stay morose and depressed for the rest of my life? It is what it is, and I can't change it. If I wanted to be sad and miserable, I should just go out and get a bottle, because I know that will do it for me. But I choose sobriety and happiness. My happiness is not dependent on someone else."

Acceptance is about learning to be okay with things that we don't agree with, it's not about being okay with those things we do.

Now that would truly be a miracle!

I sometimes find myself amazed at how much money some people are willing to pay me already! smile

Hi Fred
I am glad to see you are transitioning well. I just went back to work myself. This time on straight commission, but it is not about making money, it is more for the social contact. I found I was starting to recluse away.

The thing about money and getting paid more is a funny thing. Somehow we can equate it with how much we are worth. I have to be careful with that measurement. In the past two years I have learned my worth is not about what I am paid.

I have been encouraged by your posts as I understand the challenges of disengaging from a relationship that is not "normal". I see in your case you have made the choice to let your circumstance make you better not bitter.

Great post BC.

This at the time is my only social contact and I think that work being the only thing I did before was because of the ability to be of service in the world was where I got a lot of my self-worth, outside of my family. Losing my health to the point of being disabled and then my wives spiral down to death last year is a tough transition. I will bounce back and with a healthier person now that I too am learning about who I still am.
