I ordered a copy, so if you want to jump into chapter 1, or whatever, I will be reading it by tomorrow.

Just curious...

Shouldn't everybody only spend $6 if their spouse enthusiastically approves?

Nooo

No?

I'm not saying that every marriage should involve checking with your spouse every time you spend six bucks.

But I do think for most people something like "We're fine with each other spending up to $10 (or $5, or $20, or whatever) on a single purchase without consulting each other, but for more than that we need to talk" is in order.

Is that more like what you were thinking, or am I just way off base?

Okay, I see most people are thinking that way (and that's all I meant by "Shouldn't everybody only spend $6 if their spouse enthusiastically approves?") but I'm glad to see most of you are in better shape than us where that figure can be $40 or even $100! Wow!

We don't have this going in our marriage, yet, but I think by the end of the year we will. Will probably be in better financial shape, too.

don't wait on my behalf. I'm a quick reader and will be able to get my book today or tomorrow, I just need to get a car. So basically I'm saying start reading away!

Okay, great. Don't forget, the first chapter, I believe is available here. You can read at least that.

How does everyone feel, then, about reading the entirety of Part I beginning today and then meeting here on Friday, April 30th to discuss Part I and determine a new reading goal for the following week?

How about we all begin reading Part I on Monday. Then the following Monday on May 3rd we meet here to discuss Part I and determine a new reading goal for the week?

Vibrissa if you find yourself way behind with the delivery, let us know, K? Don't forget about chapter 1 being on the site here. That's about half the week's reading right there.

Sounds good to me. I'll read what I can online and hopefully I won't be too behind!

We don't have a lot of money so we both try to be fairly sensible anyway but its just a "If you're out and need something you don't need to stop and check if its under this."

Its rarely necessary because we rarely spend more than that on anything lol. Even grocery shopping is usually done in two trips a week each which will be less than the agreed amount lol.

Today tho for instance I realised my 5year old's shoes were too small. I was able to take her out and buy her a new pair (for $12) without checking. Which was good because my hubby was at 37,000feet at the time. It would have had to wait till another day if I had to check in before I could do that.

lildoggie, we (mrs. farmer and I) have the same agreement and limit of $100 with the exception of grocery shopping. It is difficult to get out of the grocery store for under $100, especially if we have purchased any meat since we only shop one day each week.

By mutual agreement, we will inform but not seek approval for amounts less than $100 if it is something for ourself rather than something purchased for the family.

Hmm, I should clarify, we don't just wander off to town and blow $100 smile It's just if we do come across a bargin, or an emergency, then we can comfortably spend that amount without frantic phonecalls which would be difficult in our current sitch.
I'm actually pretty frugal - I spent $12 the last time I was in town. $3 on a pair of jeans from the op shop and $9 on a cardigan that was on sale.
We have a budgeted monthly amount for groceries, so I never have to POJA what I buy if he isnt present, as long as it falls within the monthly budget.

I will started reading LB chapter one monday.

I just wanted to mention that those beginning to read on Monday, if you are not opposed to using a highlighter in sections that resonate with you, it may help in your discussing it the following week.

I realize some people feel it desecrates the book, but if you have every intention of keeping it for your own use, and not ever giving it away, it may be a good way to identify with the scenarios and characters.

On the other hand, a post it pad with notes would work as well and would not harm the book...

Just throwing that out there.

8thgraders - The current plan is to begin reading Part I on Monday (with a goal to finish reading it before the discussion) on May 3rd. We'll discuss Part I then and and decide on a reading goal for the following week.

Gemstone, I have the revised edition, with 2 bonus chapters at the end, and I believe the one in the store here is the revised edition.

Half of Part I is actually available here in the bookstore. Just click the icon for the book, and if you have adobe 6 (I believe) you can read a good chunk of it.
