Are sexual addicts always men. If not, are there differences in how women might behave as opposed to men. and how does one define sexual addiction in such a way that distinguishes it from just promiscuity.

"Reckless promiscuity" is a common trait among Borderline Personality Disordered people, the majority of whom are women.

According to many sources, sexual promiscuity isn't so much about sex as it is about a search for self-image and self-worth. Many disordered people were sexually abused as children, and they have incorporated sexual behavior into their personae. "If this person will have sex with me, I must be attractive and desirable. Therefore, I am worth something" seems to be the message they tell themselves.
