. . . and for anyone else of what love and romance are supposed to be.
I finally watched a Netflix copy of this thing last night. Before it was half over I was Googling
Twilight "abusive boyfriend"
If you know any teenage girls (or anyone else) who thinks this movie is wonderful and romantic, I suggest you do the same.
I'm glad it wasn't just me.

Well, I googled it. I found it ridiculous that there's such analyzing of a movie based on werewolves and vampires. This reminds me of all the analyzing that went into Avatar...a movie based on fictious characters in a land that doesn't exist. Suddenly the movie was a statement about the plight and abuse of this people or the dehumanization of this or that.
Maybe having an English degree makes me cringe when I hear analysis of media. But we're talking about undead creatures that live off of killing people. Of course there's going to abuse in the relationship.
The fact that any female would find Edward attractive with his extremely feminine characteristics and that he 'shimmers and glows' in the sun...good lord. I'm really surprised he's not into guys.

I object to these movies on the grounds that they're just plain terrible. Okay, granted I only saw the first one, but I was laughing the whole time, though I'm pretty sure it wasn't meant to be a comedy. I went with my H, my daughter, and my daughter's then boyfriend. The boyfriend decided that the entire movie reminded him of one long cologne commercial. Every time Edward (or whoever the main vampire guy is) gave one of those looks into the camera, he would say something like "Brute, by Faberge" and we'd all start cracking up.

I always tell guys that if they did half the stuff Edward did, they'd be in jail the rest of their life.
Did you know in that cliff-diving scene in (new Moon? Eclipse?) has people diving off that same location screaming they can hear Edward?

Oh my goodness, Mulan, I totally loved the books and the movies. I agree they're nutjobs, horrible role models, and take actions that wouldn't fit for most of us, but I'm not reading them looking for a role model, and neither are my kids. Lots of stuff that's looks fun on paper and on screen, we wouldn't actually do because the consequences aren't the ones we want. It was still so much fun to participate in. I loved the intensity of it, how dazzled they were with each other. I did talk at length with my kids about how I thought the protagonist had no balance in her life, and I'm glad that they're into education and outside activities, too, and encouraged them to share what they thought. I thought it was good that it got us talking.

I liked how they moved on from the controlling relationship to talking through compromises. Were willing to be O&H with the other when they didn't like what they were doing. And I liked the sparkling thing, too

Look, folks. I don't know who got the idea that it was okay to make vampires look like Ambercrombie and finch models and sparkle gold and silver, but it's complete b.s. Vampires should be like the ones in Lost Boys and out of Anne Rice (at the very least but not that Louie cat). Vampires should be ooze masculinity if they are male.
If I was a vampire and all that happened was I glittered when I went out in the sun, I'd be a complete jerk because I could. I'd flip over cars, rip lockers off the walls. I'd impress all the chicks with my flying abilities.
Seriously, they made Edward look like a neutered male. But I suppose this appeals to teenage girls. Geez.

Kilted, I think this is part of the appeal, that Edward and Jacob could do all these things, but they don't, because they wants to be super-gentle. Edward writes Bella a lullaby, and hums it to her. Plays piano for his family. Jacob takes care of his infirm father, and spends months with Bella without trying to kiss her. In the movie, he says, "I love you" to Bella in his native language before going in for a kiss. And who says women don't like the nice guys?

Ohhhhhh...I get it now. This is the equivalent of porn for women.
Doesn't Bella kiss both of them and is torn between which to go to? If she was married to one, they just might be on marriage builders!

Kilted--
I agree COMPLETELY! I find Edward and Jacob completely unattractive. If I were a girl with a vampire boyfriend I would want him to be masculine. Not some pasty-faced pansy.

That's why I'd be a werelion. I'd be so awesome and steal all the women from Jacob and Edward while they were busing putting on their too tight pants, their make up, and constructing lullabies and poems.

The equivalent in that it is totally unrealistic? Because I don't know if you'll find a series of romance novels with less action going on LOL
So sorry to say, kilted, but she doesn't just kiss Jacob, but she kisses him two days after she and Edward get engaged. On a morning when his whole family are risking their necks to save her.
And I do think what would make them great candidates for MB help is that is would be great to contradict the "There's no danger here, because *you're special*" message. As in, he's a dangerous vampire, but you'll be fine, because you're special, he won't hurt you. And, her best friend is a guy she's in love with, and she sneaks behind your back to see him, but you'll be fine, because you're special, and they're "just friends."

I meant equivalent not in the sex sense but that it sets up a false expectation of romance in a relationship much like some would say that porn creates a false expectation of sex in a relationship.
I didn't realize how much of a hussy Bella was. I'm shocked and appauled.
I stand behind me being a werelion and being the alpha male. I'm going to go and walk around on all fours while growling that I'm an alpha male and see if my wife finds that hot. It'll be like a science experiment.

I'd be willing to bet that she will. Wellll...she didn't think it was quite that hot. But she did say it put her in the mood to watch me grill some beef and then dress up like a Roman gladiator when the kids were asleep. And then my 12 year old daughter said we were gross.

Scars and all. Loincloth. OMG...a chick just referenced God of War. That's like one of my all time favorite games. You're absolutely super cool right now in my book. This I will do.

I love the game, and you can see why. I want a guy like that. Heck, what girl wouldn't want a man like him. It's the wonderful story. Normally I don't like blood, but this game just...spoke to me. I even bought the special Pandora's Box edition of the third game. I have a REPLICA of Pandora's Box. Yay, I'm cool.
