Well, kinda sorta. Our surrogate daughter had her baby this morning. A day early and an amazingly short labor, considering it's her first one.

By 'surrogate daughter' - we were there for her when her mom had an affair and murdered her dad. I was close to the family for years before it happened; I knew her and her sister when they were 6.

She wanted me to approve of her fiancee, and I actually had the honor of giving her away at her wedding.

My wife is going to Phoenix for a week to help them make the transition from hospital to home; in our experience that was the roughest time. DW will have a good visit with MIL and SIL while she's out there, and show off our own DD0.

Just wanted to throw out a bit of good news. My friend is gone, but he lives on in other ways.

Congrats BB!

I have an "extra" daughter as well. She was a friend of the family and a freshman in college when her mom died of cancer almost 10 years ago. (Her folks D and since then her dad has been out of the picture, in another state, remarried and pretty useless in the parent department since she was about 7).

She came to live with us after that and will be marrying my son-in-law's best friend since middle school on Saturday.

Enjoy being a grandpa!!!!
