"Reva" is not my real name and was only created for this forum. I do not use it anywhere else but here. I just received an email from Match.com, with a salutation that read, "Miss Reva, find your match here." I think this is in extremely bad taste to solicit business from people here who are hurting and certainly not ready to find their new mate (particularly if one is trying to save their old mate and their marriage). I thought my email was private here. Are our emails and screen names being sold or given to third parties? It makes me uncomfortable about posting.

Reva, the board owners do not ever share or publish email addressess or any other private information from your registration.

Sorry this happened to you, but it was not from this website.

Reva, it's possible that you have spyware on your computer that picked up your ID and email addy. Download Spy Blocker and Adaware to get rid of the spyware.

Reva, LC is right, you probably downloaded some spyware from some website. We use a free program called Advanced System Care that works really well.

Reva,

I can assure you, MarriageBuilders does NOT sell or supply ANY personal information on you including your email address. This site is entirely anonymous. The ONLY time your email address is exchanged is if you or another member contacts me and asks to exchange emails, and that's ONLY with prior permission from both parties.

Which is also why we HIGHLY discourage members posting their email address on the forums for ANY reason and/or including it on their signature lines & profiles. See the post in the Announcement Forum Your Signature Line There's some very strange, mentally unhealthy individuals out there that can make your internet experiences miserable.

Reva, I don't know how match.com got your MB name or address. On my service provider I have access to several different names for other accounts or family members. There is not any name that has not received spam email and believe all have had invites from specifically match.com. I have no idea how they get all these names & address.

Be safe all,,,,,

Reva, markos isn't my real name, either, and I created a Yahoo email address specifically for use with this board. In no time at all I was receiving all kinds of solicitation email addressed to markos at my markos address. I don't know if match.com was involved or not. But all it took was the creation of that address. Perhaps something similar has happened to you. marriagebuilders.com is not the only institution that has your email account; your email provider also has it.

I'm not sure if my previous post was clear, but what I am saying is that Yahoo gleefully sold my new address and name to advertisers. Yahoo, my email provider, was responsible for the spam problem, not Marriage Builders.

I think Markos sold your address to match.com so he could get Prisca a beautiful Christmas gift this year.

Admit...it's YOUR fault, Markos.

Isn't it always the man's fault?

It's spam. The geeks can get our emails in the blink of an eye, and they DO IT.

Don't ask them how they do it. It's automagic on the Internet.

Reva, just FYI, I received this from G-Mail/Google recently. It goes to show you that your email provider may be the very one who sold your email.

Quote
Google rarely contacts Gmail users via email, but we are making an exception to let you know that we've reached a settlement in a lawsuit regarding Google Buzz (http://buzz.google.com), a service we launched within Gmail in February of this year.

Shortly after its launch, we heard from a number of people who were concerned about privacy. In addition, we were sued by a group of Buzz users and recently reached a settlement in this case.

The settlement acknowledges that we quickly changed the service to address users' concerns. In addition, Google has committed $8.5 million to an independent fund, most of which will support organizations promoting privacy education and policy on the web. We will also do more to educate people about privacy controls specific to Buzz. The more people know about privacy online, the better their online experience will be.

Just to be clear, this is not a settlement in which people who use Gmail can file to receive compensation. Everyone in the U.S. who uses Gmail is included in the settlement, unless you personally decide to opt out before December 6, 2010. The Court will consider final approval of the agreement on January 31, 2011. This email is a summary of the settlement, and more detailed information and instructions approved by the court, including instructions about how to opt out, object, or comment, are available at http://www.BuzzClassAction.com.

That is just one lawsuit for the issue you are talking about. There are others.

I don't believe I am the geek in question. The only email addresses I can get are the ones given to me. smile I'm not even very good at that; I once went to an embarrassing amount of trouble to try to get someone here to contact me by email only to find some people's email addresses are listed on their profiles here. Oops.

I read that about six times as "markos @ is old" before I realized it was "markos @ I sold" smile
