Well, I'm a Mets fan, and I am immensely enjoying watching the Braves be down 3-0 -- just like my Metsies were.
Except my Metsies have GUTS and SPUNK and they fought valiantly.
Let's see if John Rockhead, Larry Jones and the rest of them Tomahawk Choppers have the same GUTS.
Last night the Yankers played a Mets-style game.

I don't like either team. I wish there was some way that both teams could lose... ![[Linked Image from marriagebuilders.com]](http://www.marriagebuilders.com/forum/images/icons/smile.gif)
--andy

Hi All -
YEAH!!!! Baseball Talk!!!!!
Trying hard - I don't want him here next year whether he wins or not....I want "the Boomer" back!!!! George got greedy and that's what happens when someone gets greedy!! Clemons was/is? a great pitcher, don't get me wrong...he's just not meant to be a Yankee!!! I was at Boomer's perfect game....INCREDIBLE!!!! I just love him....he's a riot!! I thought his personality gave a good balance to the team!! And of course, he can pitch!!!
Almost was at Cone's perfect game too!!! My friend had tickets and her sister backed out but then changed her mind!! BooHoo!!!
I have been a Yank fan since I was 2 yrs old!!! My Dad would take my two brothers and I down to the games twice a year at least...Thurman Munson held my face in his hand and called me a cutie - something that I will never forget!!!
I also was there with first base seats for Don Mattingly's first game and told him that he was HOT and would be a great first baseman and Yankee.....He said OH yeah!! How do you know?...I said cuz I could tell by the way you crouch!! He laughed and winked at me!!!! Great fun!! The last few years I haven't gotten to talk to any of them...just basically watch their butts as they do their warmups!!!! (TeeHee!!!) And no - I am not a Jeter fanatic....give me a first baseman or a catcher (Joey-G.!! - Posada's not a catcher yet!!) anyday!!!
Anyway...how did I get into "butt" talk? Maybe I shouldn't have read that "miss Sex" thread before this!!! LOL!!
I love baseball!!!! Keep stats and everything!!! I know I'm nuts!! LOL!!
Dazed - I like the Mets too. They did a fantastic job this year!! Those post season games were so great!! I felt so bad for Kenny Rogers with the walk...had tears in my eyes for him....He used to be one of "my guys"!! Didn't do so hot as a Yankee...he wasn't consistant. How was he as a Met? (except for the last game of course!)
I also, hate it when baseball season is done....I have some games taped though!! So, whenever I need a "fix" I pop in a tape!!!
Airheart - What team do you like? and why don't you like the Yanks or Braves?
I know that we usually are fans for whatever team is closest to where we live, but how can you deny that those two teams have been really good baseballers??
Since I have this chance to talk about something other than "relationship stuff".....What do you - as baseball fans feel about two things:
1) The All Star Game at Fenway - did you feel ashamed (as I did) that players from the World Champion Team were BOOED at an All Star game? It was disgusting - I don't care who that team is...you don't BOO them!!
2) What about the Pete Rose interview the other night....Did you think that the weasel interviewer was right in what he did on Pete's first big acknowledgement day?
Hugs,
Sheba
Sheeb --
Now we're getting into GOOD stuff!!! Baseball! Didn't realize there were baseball fans on the list!
Why don't I like the Braves and Yanks? I'll tell ya why -- As far as the Yanks go, well there are two reasons really. Reason Number One: I grew up in New England, so I was always a Red Sox fan. In fact, I lived next door to Carlton Fisk's parents when he hit that big home run in Game 6 of the '75 WS. Awesome memory for me! (side note - also the reason I don't like the Mets is cuz I'm a Boston fan... that '86 WS... grrr). Second reason I don't like the Yanks -- I'm now a Padres fan, and the Yanks swept 'em four straight last year... I sorta hold a grudge. ![[Linked Image from marriagebuilders.com]](http://www.marriagebuilders.com/forum/images/icons/wink.gif)
I don't like the Braves for one reason and one reason only -- the tomahawk chop. Now there's an obnoxious crowd cheer if I ever saw one! ack! (oh wait a minute... two reasons -- John Rocker! Can't stand that guy!)
I don't deny that both teams are great and have great players. But don't mean I have to like 'em does it? ![[Linked Image from marriagebuilders.com]](http://www.marriagebuilders.com/forum/images/icons/smile.gif)
Your question about the All Star game in Boston this year -- it's too bad when fans have to do that. I can dislike a team as much as I want, but I don't like being rude about it. But you're not saying that NY fans are any better are you?... <joke!>
RE: Pete Rose's interview... what the hell's up with that anyway?!? Give the guy a break! How many other players (including Yankees) have done stuff just as bad if not worse, but have been welcomed back with open arms... makes me rather pissed.
--andy
[This message has been edited by airheart (edited October 27, 1999).]

Airheart -
I just knew that you were a Red Sox fan!!! That must have been so cool to live next to Fisk's parents!!! Did you know him and stuff?
I grew up with Nagy (pitcher for oh gosh!! memory block...is it Cleveland?...no he's with Baltimore I think!) Didn't really know him...just from school..
Anyway, you cracked me up with the Tomahawk remark.....LOL!!!! Sorry Susan!!
No, it doesn't mean you have to like them....just appreciate them maybe!! LOL!!
Hey, I was kind of scared when we had to play the Sox....they beat up on us this year!!! Damn good year for them!! Didn't like the fan reaction at the all-stars though...not just cuz they're Yankees but that was a very bad example for kids about the game of baseball!!!
And yes, they can be bad at Yankee stadium also....
I yell at people all the time when they start booing....and they boo their own team members!!!! Pisses me off so bad!!
It's a shame...the ones doing it are preteens to drunken twenties...
When I went as a kid and even into my early twenties - it was completely disrespectful to do that......now they are booing one minute and cheering the next. Complete hypocrites!!!!
I think that the media made such a todo about the "curse" crap that Boston fans just got swept into the hype!!! It really was bad for the all-star game though!!! I don't think even Yank fans would have done that!!! Not the way they are with the history and tradition of baseball!!!!
The Rose interview - UGH!! That was not a Yankee reporter!!!! That's what you get when Networks who know nothing all year all of a sudden carry the games and have to use their own announcers and reporters!!!! What an A$$@!!e!!!
I felt so bad for Pete and was embarassed by the reporter!!! The fans gave him great applause and this stupid jerk tried to take this great moment away from him and make it "dirty".
What kills me is that people lie, steal cheat and kill in politics, business, etc. and here they are still after some baseball player who actually did his job damn well!!!! Pllllleeeeaaase!!!!
I'm glad that the Yanks wouldn't talk with him last nite!!!
Would you agree that when teams are shown on network...one announcer from each team's usual ones should call the games? I can't stand to listen to these others who have no clue and can't even say their names right!!!!
Hey Susan - How into Baseball are you? I appreciate the good ball players on the Braves.....can't stand that pitching coach's rocking on the bench though...what's up with that!!!! I would have to strap him down if I was on the bench with him!!! LOL!!!

HUGS,
Sheba

Sheba,
I was bummed when the Sox lost in the playoffs this year, but I really didn't have any high hopes that they'd do it anyway. I was just happy they got into the playoffs at all. They did have a marvelous run this year. That Pedro.. he da man!
Now if only my Pads can be more consistent. They go from last to first to last to first to last so often that it has my head spinning! yuck!!
I never got to know Carlton Fisk, but I did meet him once or twice. He was a rather distant individual (at least so it seemed to my 14 yr old self). Also, speaking of knowing ball-players, I used to know someone who went to high-school with David Wells.
I hate the national network coverage of baseball. Bob Costas drives me nutso! It really was disgusting how Pete Rose was treated. And while I'm at it, the guy should be allowed into the Hall of Fame too. oh well. I've never thought about whether they should allow the local announcers call the games in the Series, but now that you mention it, that would be pretty cool. Actually, here's what I like to do. Turn the volume down on the TV, and find the radio station that's broadcasting the game. Usually the radio guys are tons better than the TV guys (even for the networks).
enjoy the game tonite,
--andy

Sheba:
Rogers did a good job for the Mets this year...but he looked like he didn't give a rat's butt when he walked in that winning run in Game 6. Bill Buckner syndrome, I'm afraid.
If anyone's interested, I'll post "Why Being a Mets Fan Is Like Being in An Abusive Marriage." ![[Linked Image from marriagebuilders.com]](http://www.marriagebuilders.com/forum/images/icons/smile.gif)
Now, in terms of Baseball Babes, Al Leiter rules!!
2-0 Yankers. Looks like a sweep.

YAAAAAAY YAAAAAAAY!!!!!
We are the Champions my friends!!!
Happy Feet.....Happy Feet!!!!!
Doing the HAPPY DANCE!!!!!!!
Yeah, I get a little pleasure from my baseball!!!! LOL!!!!
Good pitcher's game!!!! Clemons CAN pitch as a Yankee if he tries!!! Smoltz was excellent, I thought.
Felt so bad with all the sadness on the Yanks going on.....sorta bittersweet for my Paulie!!!
A moment of prayer for the soul's of the Dads of the 3 Yankee players who recently lost them......... Thanks.
Airheart - It's funny that you mentioned about turning off the TV sound and using the radio....when the announcers are particularly annoying to me - I do the same!!!!
I hope that the Padre's find some consistancy...there is nothing more frustrating........
I think that Rose should be in the Hall of Fame also!!! No Question, Enough already!!!!
Dazed - Glad that Rogers did good during the season....he may have looked like he didn't care, but believe me - it gets to him REAL bad and that is when he loses his consistency and could really pitch lousy....luckily it happened last game or you would see his decline and it's not pretty!!! I just hope that he can work past it within himself by Spring!!
What's a Buckner?
I like your thread topic!! LOL!!!
Yeah, your guy's OK!!! LOL!!! Gotta take my Tino over him though....The arms and the butt!!!! Oh Lordy....to die for one touch!!!! ( I don't get any so I can fantasize all I want!!!!)
Distrusting.....On behalf of Yankee fans I thank you!!!! (like I had something to do with it!!!) LOL!!!!
HUGS and Friday is the PARADE!!!!! I love PARADES!!!!! LOL!!!
Sheba
PS - Trying Hard....THANK YOU so much for starting this thread - I have had so much fun!!!! It's great to talk with you guys about non-stressful fun things!!!! This shows that there is life beyond all our messes if we let it in sometimes!!!!

BRAVES CHOKE!!!
Now, when MY team was down 3-0, we fought back valiantly --- and almost won that last game.
The BRAVES, however, when down 3-0, didn't know what to do. They didn't have the GUTS to fight back.
It's really too bad that Chipper Jones and John Rockhead had to open their mouths this year. The Braves have long been a classy organization, and the team has conducted itself with class. I also feel badly for John Smoltz, who's one of the best pitchers in the league, and a helluva guy.
But I have to admit to a smug satisfaction, even if it means all the Yankee fans in my office are going to be insufferable today.
And BTW, I don't think My Beloved Metsies would have beaten this Yankee team either...though their would have been no disgrace in losing to them.

Hey!
Where were all you baseball fans during the regular season? I never could get anybody to talk ball with me then!
Guess you Yankee fans have bragging rights for yet another year. <sigh> Some day, my Rangers will find a way to at least win a game against the Yanks. Maybe one of these days Steinbrenner will spend a lot of cash on pitchers that DON'T work out for him.
Guess I'm glad the Series victory stayed in the American League, but it's hard to watch the Yanks win every year. Of course, I'm just about as sick of the Braves as I am of the Yanks.
At least I'm not crazy. The Rangers aren't the only team that can't win a game against the Bombers. Of course, they still seem to be the only team that can't even score runs against them! ![[Linked Image from marriagebuilders.com]](http://www.marriagebuilders.com/forum/images/icons/frown.gif)
Ah well, hope you Yankee fans enjoy the moment.
------------------
/// Lone Star * ///

gotta love them yanks...shveeeeeeeeeeep
got to use my broom 2 yrs in a row now and for all you shmettie fans here who think you gave the bravos a run for their money, keep dreaming, you are further away from the promised land than you think, -- i'll get into that another time today is a day to celebrate our world series victory--by the way airheart i lived in boston 82-84 and saw every american league team play in fenway pk--too bad the sox were so horrible--although it was good for me as a college student baseball fan i could buy a seat out front for 5$ or 2$ after the first inning--the beers i drank were more expensive than the damn ticket--a memorable event for me at fenway- i was at yaz's last game...congrats to all yankee fans...see you at the canyon of heroes on friday...much peace and love ...trying hard
