Ashes to Ashes

From the ashes of childhood she did rise.

Soaring high and high in the top of the skies.

Some flew with her, but wanted to land; that wasn't the firebird's plan.
Others viewed her with utter delight, but determined they could not take to flight.
Yet another got a different plan;
Toforce her, to force her to touch the land.
Strings and ropes was all this one needed
And after some time, finally succeeded.
Catch her and pull her and drag her down ...
She turned to ashes once on the ground.
The nature of the bird is to rise again, so she ascended back to the wind.

High and high she flew in the sky.

She knew how to dodge strings and rope
And was full of wondrous new hope.
There were other things she didn't learn
Ran into something; crashed and burned.

Again, again! she did rise, up a little distance into the skies.

Her next flight, though, belied indecision.
Then a burning flash that obscured the vision.
"Wait for it, wait for it and all will see, this phoenix will continue to be.
Wait for it, wait for it, it happens every time,
This creature and it's story is exquisitely sublime."

The time of waiting turned to eternity.
That the creature was Icarus, they never did see.
