Been lurking for several weeks.
Hoping someone has answers to this.
On At&t wireless phone bill there are line items for voice & data. Under the data category, they are sub-categorized as
"Text/IM Messaging" & "internet/media". With the "Text/IM messaging" line items they have an actual phone number associated with the actual text.
BUT, the "internet/media" just has the word "phone" associated with it.
Now, with the little bit of information I've gathered from At&t, this would indicate "apps that are running".
Does anyone know definitely what all this line item could mean?
I>E> could this be another text app being used, like TextNow or TextPlus or could it be a chat app being used?
I cannot get a definitive answer from at&t.
Thanks in advance

Do you have an iphone? Do you have a data package that allows you to text to social media like Facebook? That may be what you're seeing.

It's probably just accounting for data transferred when your phone accesses the internet. Check here...

MB, I have iphone, and we both have unlimited data. That is part of the frustration, I actually "use" my phone more, but my bill looks NOTHING like his.
Northwood, OMG, that was awesome. I think it answered most of my questions.
Also helped that I just gave up and asked him point blank last night, quit obsessing and confronted. That helped me tremendously. I have access to his phone anytime i ask.
Geez, this type of stuff will make us crazy!
Again, thanks all!

Could you share what he said with us? Did it explain the phone bill? You input may help other posters in the same situation.

It was less about his answer & more about me just having the courage & fortitude to quit obsessing & confront. He honestly doesnt know how or what is causing this data usage. And since the AT&T folks can't explain either , I tend to believe him. Make sense?
We have been actively working R for 2.5 months, he, for all appearances, is doing everything "right", it's me that can't get past some days.
I just keep telling myself
* this too shall pass
*one day at a time
* Time heals all wounds
And any other slogan that can get me thru a day
(sigh)

The fantastic thing with the AT&T site is that you can add numbers to your "phonebook."

Tell you what, adding names to numbers, then sorting by number called... you can figure a trend rather quickly.

This is targeted to men, but the ideas within are universal:

Quote
This really gets to the crux of why, when were in the midst of a funk, we feel like it will last forever, and yet it inevitably passes. When we imagine the future, we think we will always feel the way we do at that moment, but we do not imagine all the life events that will keep us from sitting in our room and brooding 24/7. The vast majority of minds cannot ruminate on the same thing indefinitely. Life goes on and takes us along with it.

This Too Shall Pass

Thought I would post more info on what I have found out regarding "data usage" on phone bills.
Every time you listen to any type of online streaming program, i.e. MB radio, you tube, stitch radio etc, you will see this on phone bill as data usage

First, I'll apologize in advance for any hint if frustration. It bugs me whenever I hear stories about colleagues that don't know what they are doing. I work for ma bell smile

The 'phone' is just showing what's called the APN, which is like a gateway an AT&T phone gets its internet connection through. Different data plans will have different APN's, and more confusingly, different phones like an iPhone 4 and an iPhone 4S will be on different plans and APNs. Unfortunately, all it means is that there was a data exchange. There isn't a way to tell what application caused the usage.
