Hey all,
I think I have a little good news. My wife looks like her and OM are finally close to ending their "friendship". I think OM might move away soon. :-) Anyhow, both my wife and I know that if and when final withdrawl happens, she is going to hit the skids really hard. She even commented to me last night that she knew she would need to be medicated.
SO, my question to those of you who have used anti-depressants is what has worked best for you with the least bad side effects? I've heard horror stories from people about diminished sex drives and other weird side effects. So give it to me straight so I might be able to help her make a good decision when the times comes.
Thanks,
Struggling

Talk to your doctor...
Wellbutrin is one that has few side effects. Dry mouth and an inability to achieve orgasm are two, but these usually go away after a month or so.

Hey,
I have dealt with depression for most of my life but for the past 16 it has been medically treated. I have used them all. My current one is wellbutrin. Prozac is the big erection, orgasm killer. wellbutrin is supposed to have the least side effects sxually although there is a new one called celex or something like that. I am on a higher dose of wellbutrin now and can notice the orgasm problems that I didn't have on lower doses. I have an appt. next week with doc and it is a concern of mine. My libido is also down. I am taking 400 a day, which cannot be increased any higher. This drug is not recommended for people with a seizure disorder or with eating disorders. Seizures have been noted with the 400 to 500 mg dosage. So, I am borderline.
Good luck. The withdrawal she will go through will be the hardest thing that you will experience to date. Get ready. You may end up needing something yourself. I wish you the best.

ubu

I started with paxil but got migraines but I am prone to them. I read quite a bit about it and know several people on it and they are doing well. It is an antidepessant and also will help with anxiety. I am now on remeron. I've only been on it eighteen days. I haven't had any side affects but I sure wish it would kick in sooner and faster. It's supposed to help you sleep and eat. Two activities I haven't been doing much of. I haven't had a chance to see what effect it would have on my sex life(unfortuntly) but I do feel desire. Hope that helps.

This is really something for your wife to decide with her doctor. There are lots of antidepressants of the SSRI type on the market right now and each person taking them has different side effect. Your wife might need to try a couple of different ones until she finds one that works best for her. I just switched from Prozac to Wellbutrin two days ago. I'll see how that works for me. I should mention, however, that antidepressants in general have not been shown in studies to be effective for situational depression. Certain individuals seem to get some relief from them during tough times. I wish you and your wife luck!

I am currently taking CELEXA. It is a relatively new anti-dep. It has helped me tremendously. I don't know how to compare it to Prozac or any of the other as I have never been on it. I have had no side effects (sexual activity has not been dampered). The only thing I noticed was one of my hands shaked mildly but once I would move it again, it would stop. I highly recommend this drug. It's been a miracle and my H says he has the wife he married back.

i took 20mg of prozac for 2 yrs.. i believed it was a mireical and still do. it relieved my depression, i felt very confident and think i was as normal people are. six months ago my dr. prescribed celexa. it's been very popular in europe for several years but is new here. i can't tell much difference in the two. i understand that normally one is started on 20mg. and then normally that is increased to 40mg.. i haven't tried the increased dosage becaused i moved to another state and haven't gotten another doctor. both of them caused me to have trouble pulling my trigger. i haven't had problems with erections. i'm reading now that most, if not all, depressants may cause late term weight gain. i recently started gaining weight for no apparent reason. what i've read also inicated weight gain does not responsd well to exercise and dieting.
