We have been to 2 marriage counselors and have split up 3 times.
This is a pretty rough start to a 2-year marriage.
Is your husband willing to learn about MB?
We continue to have the same problem.
TRANSLATION:"Traditional marriage counseling did not do diddley-squat for our marriage skills."
When we have a disagreement I want to talk about it and work it out. He wants to forget about it.
TRANSLATION:"I'm right, H is wrong."
He will either not respond or say things like I don't know what your talking about.
TRANSLATION:Your H is as
exasperated with this pointless circular fighting as you are!
I then try for hours sometimes days to understand why he does this with almost every little problem.
TRANSLATION:"I'm like a starving dog chewing on a bone. I won't let go."
I'll walk away and give him space and then go back later but it's the same response and he never comes to me to try and resolve anything.
TRANSLATION:"I try the same things over and over and over and over .... and the results are always the same .... so I do it again."
I will eventually get extremely upset because he won't talk to me or he'll act like he has no clue what I'm talking about and then he will start calling me crazy because I'm getting so upset.
TRANSLATION:"Both of us are exasperated and frustrated and neither of us knows how to break this cycle of disrespect."
I have told him over and over
TRANSLATION:"I think my H is hearing impaired."
that I hate being ignored but he does it anyways.
TRANSLATION:
"I make love busters, and H withdraws."
BOTH OF YOU ARE WEARING PROTECTIVE ARMOR. YOURS IS VERBAL ARMOR, HIS IS NON-VERBAL ARMOR. You are both saying the same thing .... if you actually paid attention to the real message. "Stop love-busting me."
I don't get how someone can be that hurtful if they care about you.
Start by counting the hurtful things you do & say. You want to draw H towards you, yes?
Why does he continue to ignore me and refuse to deal with any problems at all?
Because you approach him the same way time & time again ... no doubt you are very much articulate at naming his flaws for him. Am I incorrect? You can change this, but you must be willing to change yourself, and stop love busting.
It seems like he just wants to pretend like everything is perfect
I'm pretty sure your H is not mentally incompetent, which is what you are implying. I bet 2 donuts your H knows damn well things are not perfect, but he does not have a clue how to make things better. I bet 3 donuts, your H would love to have a relationship with you where he felt safe to express himself and safe to make love bank deposits in YOUR love bank.
and for the most part things are good and we usually get along
This is why I see so much good potential here. You are both probably very good people.
but about twice a month for 2-3 days we do this dance and it seriously is making me rethink my decision to marry him.
I'm sure your H has the same doubts.
What work/changes are you willing to do/make in order to CREATE a wonderful marriage?
It begins with you.
Why?
Because you are here.
