Solutions for what? You want solutions, you gotta tell what's going on.

I can't be intimate with my BH. I have been married 16 years, 2 kids 13 and 8. My BH was abusive from the beginning. He didn't break my bones but I have been slapped, punched, shoved , pinched 10-12 times during first 12 years of marriage. Not justifying my affair but giving you the background. Then I had an affair. Now BH has promised to change and stop the abuse. I want to rebuild the marriage but finding it very difficult to have a romantic relationship with BH.

What is doing to stop his abuse? Have you gone to the police?

When was the last time he got physical?

Your Affair was wrong. What just compensation have you given your BH? What EPs have you put in place?

Last time he hurt me was in Sept 2012, which was a long time ago. He does intimidate/threatens me once in a while but I think he is making an effort to control his anger. No I never reported him, just couldn't do it because I do care about him very much.
I am still getting used to the acronyms and reading the articles here. I have cut off all the contact with other OM. My H has already exposed me to friends and family. He has my email/phone passwords. I am doing all I can to be a good wife except being affectionate. And I struggle with it everyday.

You are not safe with this man. When your husband goes into a rage he is temporarily insane and has no control over his behavior. It is just a matter of time before that happens again. He is a drunk with a loaded weapon and he could kill you. He has already proven that he will not stop, it is just a matter of time before he hits you again. The fact that he knows about your affair, makes him even more dangerous.

If you care about your husband, you will report him and have him thrown in jail. That is the best thing that could ever happen to him.

If he killed or maimed you, he would never get over it. And obviously you would not either.

Please separate from him until he has actually DONE something to change his behavior. "Making an effort" is meaningless because as soon as he goes into a rage he will be out of control again and your life will be at risk.

Quoting Dr Harley

Quote
It's not uncommon for a woman married to an abusive alcoholic to try to escape by having an affair. There are reasons why this approach to abuse seems appropriate at the time. An abused woman is often financially dependent on her husband, and could not easily support herself and her children during a separation. So she looks for another man, usually much older, to provide that support while she transitions out of her marriage. In almost all cases, she ends up jumping from the frying pan into the fire. The abusive husband becomes even more dangerous, and the other man usually ends up dumping the frightened woman and her children. As the writer of this letter notes, the man she turned to "turned out to be a jerk."
Control and abuse in marriage are deal-breakers. They are not only a risk to a woman's safety, but they also prevent her from feeling romantic love toward her husband. That's why I call them Love Busters. Selfish demands, disrespectful judgments, and angry outbursts combine to create control and abuse, and every couple should do whatever is necessary to eliminate them. They should not be tolerated. When an abusive spouse refuses to overcome these destructive habits, I generally advise the abused spouse to separate until safety is restored, even if it is financially difficult for them.

But while I recommend separation when a spouse is being verbally or physically abused, I do not recommend separation when a spouse is having an affair. The reason, of course, is that the separation usually makes it easier to make contact with the lover. So when abuse and infidelity occur at the same time, my advice tends to be on a case-by-case basis. This week's couple is an example of cases where I tend to keep spouses together.

Melody, I was ready to leave him. Years before I had an affair, the marriage was emotionally dead and considering the way he was treating me I din't think he would have any problem if I left him. But when he found about about my A (a year ago) he was very devastated and asked me to give him another chance. I ended the A and all the contact with the other man. But my husband had a hard time with the A details. It has been a crazy roller coaster ride of emotions, because when he would ask the details and get angry, it was very scary, during those times I wanted to leave. But then there were times when he would cry and I would stay. I went back and forth so many times this year whether to stay or leave. There were times when I wanted to leave for the sake if my kids but I also couldn't leave for the sake of my kids, because they love their dad. I know it sounds crazy. But I feel that if I can get my husband to change and calm down, my kids will have a happy, stable home. So this is my last attempt to work things out and keep the family intact.
