I have a question.
I have/had a customer that owed me money. I am a contractor.
He was not paying so I filed a mechanics lien against the property. This is standard industry practice.
He called me this morning and left a VM "you'll get the money. Release the lien or get ready to shoot MOther F??????r!"
I sent him an email and said I will not tolerate verbal abuse from him.
He called and left another message apologizing. He said "I just needed a phone call " (blaming me for his actions)
Should I report this to the police or is that too extreme?

I would. Never hurts to be thorough. Is there a non-emergency number you could call. Maybe talk with an officer to get advice?

Geez, my 1st post on MB and it's related to contracting!!!
Mechanics Liens are just one of the legal venues available to protect your Receivables and create a standing in line.
He acted irrationally, but filing one is not an irrational act. When a person purchases a new vehicle, the dealership has a lien on the vehicle to protect it's standing for the debts. Same goes for a mortgage too.
Does your State require the preliminary requirement to send the customer/contractor an Intent To Lien?
There is a good site for Contractors to discuss business related issues if you so desire to know about it.
I'm still undecided about starting my own thread on MB, since it has been so futile for so long. Sigh!!!
