My husband and I don't agree to what a marriage should be. I believe that both people have to work on a relationship; he does not. I ask to spend time with him, ask him what time he will be home for dinner, ask him to have sex with me, ask him to go out to dinner, etc. I voice my need to spend time with him, for physical contact and request he be considerate and inform me of his plans if he is not coming home for dinner. All things I believe are typical when you live with someone. He says, I am controlling, a bottomless pit of needs, and will never be satisfied. Two weeks ago he told me that he had given up everything and everyone in his life to be with me. Of course, this isn't true since he still has his family and friends present in his life, but I don't deny he feels this way. My feelings were so hurt when he said this and it was all I could do to choke back the tears. I acknowledged his feelings and walked away just shaking my head. I want a closer relationship and efforts to voice my needs and request time from him have resulted in further neglect, emotional and sexual withholding. Since his comment last week, I have stopped asking anything of him and just keep to myself. He does not call, text, email, initiate sex, make any physical contact or say much beyond hello when he gets home. He says he does not want a divorce, but he does not want to go to counseling with me or alone. He wants things to remain the same with me leaving him alone. I am seeing a therapist and it has helped me some, but the issues will remain until he decides he wants to be accountable for his actions. Short of leaving, I don't know what to do. I feel so helpless and very much alone.

Is there any chance he is having an affair?

A marriage is a relationship of extraordinary care, where our lives are an open book to each other, and we take time every week to be with each other. If your husband is unwilling to put in any effort to care for you, your marriage doesn't have much of a chance.

How long have you been married?

Do you have children?

Why would he say that he "gave up everything and everyone in his life to be with you?"

Tbaby, are you married? If so, how long? Any children?
