Your marriage has no hope as long as this continues.

ajp, this is exactly correct.

There is no way your marriage can survive continued contact with your affair partner.

Even if your husband wants you to go through the continued contact, it will still destroy your marriage.

When Dr. Harley has been asked before about a situation where a husband wanted his wife to stay in contact with an affair partner, his advice was for her to discontinue contact anyway. In general, nobody should do anything in a marriage unless both husband and wife are enthusiastic about it - so the mere fact that he wants you to continue in these circumstances does not mean you should continue in them. Staying there is an extremely bad idea!

Your husband will probably be angry if you quit the job. But your marriage can survive his anger. It cannot survive continued contact with the OM. There may be some financial hardship if you quit the job. But again, your marriage can survive this - it cannot survive you continuing to see the OM!

Even if OM were gone it is not likely your marriage could survive the reminder of you continuing to work there. You guys probably need to move.

This is going to go nowhere but south if these circumstances don't change. I would suggest that you not willingly participate in these circumstances (continuing to work there) because of how harmful it will be to your marriage.

If you are serious about saving your marriage, you can't get it all on this forum. You've got to listen to the Marriage Builders Radio show, every day. Install the app!

I already spoke to my manager and my HR representative and no company policy was violated so as far as the job is concerned, there are no ramifications other than we do need to cease working together as soon as either of us can find a new job. This was an emotional affair.

OM's finance already knows.

As I mentioned, I have two very good external opportunities so I'm actively trying to leave. As for OM, he's done little to find something else.

ajp, does your employer KNOW you had an affair with a direct report?

And I would just add that any contact with this man is inappropriate contact. Just becuase you changed the name to "business contact" does not change the fact that this is an affair. If an alcoholic changes the names of his drinks to "business drinks" he will still be drunk.

.

This affair has left them wide open for a sexual harassment lawsuit and I am astonished they dont' get that. I have never heard of a company that did not have a policy against a manager having an affair with a direct report. That doesn't make any sense. Are you sure they know about the affair? That makes me seriously wonder if they know the truth.
