I am a brand new user on this site and needs lots of advice. My husband and I met 4 years ago, and started out as best friends for a year, then started dating. In the last 3 years we have gone through events that most couples do not their whole lives. We started out a year apart due to my X fighting me in court over me trying to move with my military husband with my children. After that year a judge allowed me to move with the kids. I moved to where my husband was and 2 months later he deployed for 9 months.
While he was gone I through myself into all types of volunteer positions, so when he returned I was so busy. He now tells me I was too busy for him and now wants to seperate. I did have an affair last summer, and took my husband for granted without realizing I was. I am trying so hard to convince him now that I do want this marriage and I will never put him last again. I am needing advice on whether we can move past this. He even says it wasnt the affair that pushed him to leave it was me never making him important.

Please help!!!!!

Are you married? If so, how long?

Did your relationship start as an affair?

I read another post where you told someone that its impossible to save a bad marriage if you dont live together. He is very firm that he is moving out and has been living at a friends for a week. How can I try to fix it without him living here?

Have you checked to see if he is having an affair?

MrsHoleinHeart,

I did have an affair last summer

I hope you do not call this affair as a "mistake" to your BH, if you did it may explain why he wants to leave you. Men may act tough as if it does not bother them, but it had to absolutely destroy your BH.

Was the OM exposed to his Wife, are you still in contact with the OM, does the OM still live nearby, did you get tested for STDs?

God Bless

He says it not the affair that made him want to leave, it was the fact that he felt I put him last over all my volunteer positions and kids.

MrsHoleinHeart,

Was the OM involved with these volunteer organizations?

no I have deleted all contact with anyone from opposite sex, and social media. No the volunteer stuff was kid, school related and basically I got involved so much bc i moved to a brand new state, knew no one and my husband deployed. I did it all to take my mind off and have now stopped it all. Yes I have been tested.

I hope this is ok to say on here but my husband was beating me and I had the affair to get back at him. Yes it was a horrible thing to do however I had so much bottled up anger.

As you can see, in an abusive marriage, all an affair does is make the problems worse. Dr. Harley's Marriage Builders plan includes procedures for recovery from an affair and ending abuse in marriage. Both will need to be followed.

If you are serious about saving your marriage, you can't get it all on this forum. You've got to listen to the Marriage Builders Radio show, every day. Install the app!

Married to my radiant trophy wife, Prisca, 19 years. Father of 8.
Attended Marriage Builders weekend in May 2010

If your wife is not on board with MB, some of my posts to other men might help you.

Mrsholeinheart,

Yes that is very very relevant, you should have left him immediately after he started beating you, have you pressed charges? Your children should not see you being beaten.

And while his does beating you does not justify your affair, it does make it understandable.

God Bless

In that case, I fully agree with the separation. When there is physical abuse, your husband is not a safe person to be around. I would not only separate from him, but I would report him to his commander for assault.

If your spouse has ever hit you, or if you have ever hit your spouse, you're in a tragic and dangerous minority. But as uncommon as the problem is, whenever it occurs, people are shocked and confused as to what to do about it. My perspective as a professional who has counseled hundreds of violent clients is that these couple should be separated until there is assurance of safety. In many cases that assurance can never be given.

If you have ever hit your spouse, you are a perpetrator of domestic violence and need to take extraordinary steps to protect your spouse from yourself. Most violent spouses are deeply remorseful after sending their husbands or wives to the hospital, and sometimes to their death. But remorse does not make up for the mistake. Violence is one of those mistakes in life that you cannot ever afford to make, and if you've done it once, you're likely to do it again.

Throughout my career as a marriage counselor, I have done whatever I can to save marriages, but when it comes to domestic violence I draw the line. Unless a spouse can guarantee the other's safety from their own anger, I don't believe they should live with each other.
