This comes from a friend. His great-grandfather wrote it and he shared it with me to encourage me:

There is a single blessed thought,
That is not given, that can be bought.
It comes to one in many ways
And helps to gladden all our days.

Sometimes when doubt and cares distress,
Hope comes to one and makes success.
It gives to them desired relief,
And strengthens them in their belief.

�Tis confidence that makes us trust,
That makes us say, �I will, I must.�
When doubting friends discourage us
By thinking they will help us.

There always is a prospect bright,
For everyone to win their fight.
So don�t give up with your desire
But work and aim for things still higher.

Keep faith with all humanity,
And in yourself hold charity.
Do not expect that good will come,
Until your duty you have done.

Let God be your inspiring friend,
Trust Him to lead you to the end.
Be brave in all your walks of life,
And never falter in the strife.
