Let me just clarify something. She *DID* mean something to him when the affair was active. You don't need his admission to know that. You can see the evidence with your own eyes.

It is probably true that she means nothing to him NOW, though, because his fog is gone.

That is the truth. You can accept that and drop the subject. Drop it and don't bring it up again.

I do agree with with moving but I won't rent again most of our financial difficulties is because I rented out my first house. It got trashed and I used the last savings I had to sort it out to sell, it sold last Feb but after 5 months of doing it up and paying mortgages it left us broke. The money from sale barely covered the debts I ran up on credit just to live and the worst thing about it is my sister who rented it and wrecked it!

So I am completely stuck at minute due to financial difficulties.

I am going to read what you have advised.

It was a party at my house for his birthday and to celebrate our moving house.

The man in question is bisexual and a friend of one of our good friends I got on with him well from a previous party. My friends h can't stand him but tolerated him he said he caught him watching him whilst asleep and he creeped him out.

This man came to the party, I was next door, and it was very late as I came from that house my friends h was leaving I said goodbye and asked where my h was. He suddenly went running into house telling me this man had helped him to bed earlier and he had forgot ( everyone was very drunk). When we got upstairs my bedroom door was shut we went in to find this man stood stroking my cat looking at my h on bed (my h was clothed).

We all went down stairs and this man was going he whispered I would never have done anything to him! I found this strange thing to say but never gave a second thought. As I locked up my h appeared dazed. This is unusual as once he had got drunk he ko'd till morning.

I didn't realise the significance of all this till it came out last January the incident happened late 2013. My h does not want to press charges he is frightened he will be made to be a liar etc.

Have you appraised the house to see what you could get if you sold it? You said you bought it 2 years ago. My son sold his first home after 18 months and made a nice little profit.

I would really think this through and brainstorm with your husband to find a solution. Also, just because you had a bad rental experience before doesn't mean you will again. You can exercise better judgment in selecting a tenant.

And hopefully you learned your lesson about having drunken parties. Nothing good ever comes out of them.

Dr. Harley on How to Deal with Triggers

Also, have you thought about going on AD (anti-depressants) for a little while? Dr. Harley recommends them during this trying time.

Here's another good clip to listen to.

Wendy writes about healing from her husband's affair. Is it ever appropriate to bring up the affair?

I will talk to him about that but things like this make him feel uncomfortable.

I've tried AD last year but had adverse reaction so I started IC and I have been referred to phychologist for assessment. Just waiting for appointment unfortunately uk is very slow on these matters.

It is not first time of having adverse reactions to ADs I would prefer to stay away from them.

Have I got to let him off lying about his feelings at the time? He very well might believe she didn't mean anything now but at the time I know it was different from what he is claiming? Like you said the evidence says it all. He was also behaving like they were going to be together one day which means he was going to leave us? His answer to this is it still didn't mean anything and he would have never left especially for someone online.

So confused!!

I doubt he even remembers his feelings at the time. That is like asking an alcoholic how he felt when he was falling down drunk. So stop bringing this up and stop saying he is lying. Leave it alone.

Most men don't leave their wives for some internet hoe. This is just picking at the wound. Stop it!

Not sure why you would need to go to "counseling," however if you are going there to talk about the affair, then that is a mistake. Talking about this affair will prevent you from recovering. The only person who will benefit will be the "counselers" pocketbook. What will you be talking about there?

I have had IC through NHS no cost to me. I went because this opened up past traumas it was not all about the affair it was about everything I have been through.

I have not dealt with the past properly which is why I am probably struggling with this. My faith in people has completely gone and I am fed up of people taking advantage. I have completely shut myself down and can't see a road to take and I am frightened of making wrong decisions.

I just wake up and survive every day, walk around in auto pilot and question everyone motives. I feel it's my fault somehow that I get crapped on and I need to guard myself from everyone. Not good I know so C referred me to psychology.

I have no self esteem or confidence anymore and don't believe my h finds me attractive. I don't blame myself for affair though! That's his to own not me. I sometimes think he won't leave because he is afraid to be on his own. I don't understand how people can say they love their spouse after doing these things it's far from love.

I haven't wore my wedding rings for a long time and my h is upset by this. His ring meant nothing when he was taking it off to take the pics of himself! When he was telling these whores he was single/ separated etc. I kept my vows he didn't so they don't mean nothing to me anymore.

He wants to get married again I said no so he suggested getting rings blessed with new vows but again means nothing now I know they can be easily broken.

No the same to be honest that's why I have been referred my C said usually talking about the issues can make things clearer but in my case it did not so she said things run a lot deeper than present issues and I need specialist help.

I am hoping I can learn more about myself and learn to deal with issues in a productive way rather than accepting crap happens and burying the issues.

I may have been traumatised in the past more than I thought and walking away was not necessarily the best decision. I have always thought people who deliberately hurt you should not be in your life unfortunately when it has come to my so called close family it's not that easy. My h knows my past and it has made me angry that he would crap on me too, he was the straw that broke the donkey back if you like and now enough is enough and I have to protect myself somehow.

So you see learning to trust him again feels an impossible task I am fed up with giving second chances for it all to blow up in my face anyway. Sorry to be so negative but it's like my head has crashed and saying look at what these people who supposed to love you and what they do to you. Love feels like it comes with a price tag that you WILL get hurt.

I am scared to try and be happy because it seems there is a dark cloud every time I pick my [censored] off the floor waiting to dump on me again. Maybe I am better off on my own than trying to share my life, maybe I am not marriage material.

You don't learn to trust him again by trusting him. If his actions prove that he can be trusted, you will find yourself trusting him again.

Trust is a result, not your starting point.

I made a post questioning this event, and then saw you had already written about it.

I think your husband had consensual sex with this man. It makes no sense that he was assaulted by him and reacted by becoming "depressed" and having online sex. It also makes no sense that he did not tell you about the event and has done nothing about it - by either reporting it to the police, or tackling the man directly about what he did.

I think your H has been more sexually active than you ever suspected. You both need to go for STD testing, and you should not have sex with him until you are cleared.

You also need to tackle his lying. I agree with you that triggers are not the issue - you are hung up on these affairs because you know you have not been told the truth about your husband's secret second sex life.

We don't go in for polygraph testing much in the UK, but such tests can be had, and your marriage needs one, badly.

This is the problem with counseling, it makes the present much worse, not better. It causes depression. Why bring the unpleasantness of the past into the present? It makes no sense.

That sounds like a great idea!

In most cases I've witnessed, it makes matters worse because it drags the most unpleasant experiences of the past into the present. I know that my perspective is in conflict with many therapists who are trained to treat the past before they can treat the present, but I have yet to see any convincing evidence that this approach is more effective than letting the past stay in the past.

My personal experience is that dredging up the past actually increases the risk of suicide and other dangerous symptoms of mental disorders. Another important reason that I am opposed to bringing up issues of the past is that it wastes time. When you could be forming an effective plan and putting the plan into motion to resolve an issue of the present, you spend months, and even years focused on the past while the problems of the present keep building up, eventually burying the client.

In your situation, I strongly recommend that you not waste your time talking about the past. And don't try analyzing your husband. I know that his affair was a terrible shock to your system, and you want to feel closure. You have been terribly disillusioned by what he did, but the best you can do under the circumstances is look to the future instead of the past. Don't discuss the past with your husband or anyone else for a while, and see if you don't agree with me that it helps improve your relationship and it also causes you to be more relaxed. Focusing on the past causes depression, while focusing on the future with an eye to making it successful causes optimism and gives you energy.

My experience as a Clinical Psychologist has proven to me that dredging up unpleasant experiences of the past merely brings the unhappiness of the past into the present. The problems of the present are difficult enough to solve without spending time and energy trying to resolve issues of the past, which are essentially unresolvable. You can make your future happy, but you can't do a thing about bad experiences of the past, except think and talk about them -- and that makes the bad experiences of the past, bad experiences of the present." If the goal of therapy is to "resolve" every past issue, that seems to me to be a good way to keep people coming for therapy for the rest of their lives. That's because it's an insurmountable goal. We simply cannot resolve everything that's ever bothered us.

Instead, I tend to focus my attention on the present and the future, because they are what we can all do something about. The past is over and done with. Why waste our effort on the past when the future is upon us. Granted, it's useful to learn lessons from the past, but if we dwell on the past, we take our eyes off the future which can lead to disaster.

I personally believe that therapy should focus most attention, not on the past, but on ways to make the future sensational.

He definitely did not have have sex with this man at all he touched him.

I know for a fact nothing happened like that!! i will not go into detail why but I am 100% sure. I have also read a lot about sexual assault victims and my h fits the bill my C also said this behaviour is not unusual in an effort to feel like a "man".

As for PA this is very unlikely as he went to work and was always on time home he spent every weekend in the house with us and his pay was always correct for hrs at work. I archive pay slips so he passed them straight onto me so would of known if he had a holiday etc.

All the women he spoke to were from different countries and I have never found arrangements to meet I have not found any gay porn either. I went through the laptop and retrieved all deleted data, read DAT files etc same with phone and iPod.

As for not going police he was so ashamed and embarrassed for being so drunk to let this happen. He thought no one would believe him and think he was homaphobic. This is also true of victims.
