She still works with OM. Both my IC and MC believed it would be terrible to reveal the affair to the OM's wife and boss. In one of our MC sessions last week, I was having a hard time and said to the MC, "I believe the BIGGEST mistake was not outing this affair to his wife and boss. Now how do I know what is going on at work?" The affair happened at work. I can no longer visit her at work, because it triggers me. She understands.
Your IC and MC are enablers and have no idea how to save your marriage. I stopped right here because there is no need for me to read anymore. Recovery is impossible under these conditions. This is like sending the alcoholic into the bar every day to drink and pretending he is sober. Your wife can never withdraw from the OM and you can never heal under this condition. Every day she goes to work and sees her OM, she is triggered and you are triggered.
That is your first biggest mistake.
The second mistake is helping them hide the secret. Affairs thrive on secrecy, so keeping the secret helps it thrive and grow and prevents the fantasy from ever bursting. It is also highly unethical. You are actively contriving behind the back of this man's wife and the workplace. They are both in danger and have no way to protect themselves from your wife and the OM.
The advice we give here comes from clinical psychologist, Dr. Bill Harley, founder of Marriage Builders and author of best seller book Surviving an Affair. Most of us here have saved our marriages using these concepts. It is very obvious that your counselors have no earthly idea how to save a marriage and are hurting your chances of recovery. That is not surprising since marriage counselors have an 84% failure rate. They have no idea what they are doing and you are more likely to end up divorced taking their advice.
Do you want to save your marriage? If so, stop going to counseling. Expose the affair, demand that your wife quit her job immediately and follow this checklist to affair proof your marriage:
From Surviving an Affair, pg 66-67
The extraordinary precautions do more than end marriage-threatening affairs; they help a couple form the kind of relationship they always wanted.
These recommendations may seem rigid, unnecessarily confining, and even paranoid to those who have not been the victim of infidelity. But people like Sue and Jon, who have suffered unimaginable pain as a result of an affair that spun out of control, can easily see their value. For the inconvenience of following my advice, Sue would have spared herself and Jon the very worst experience of their lives.
