Speaking of Nothing Else Matters by Metallica...I used to play guitar, and I sang that one to my W just shortly after we started dating...Makes me cry now [Linked Image from marriagebuilders.com] I even threw away that CD after I found out about her A.
The next one on my list would be The Dance by Garth Brooks.
James
[This message has been edited by JW (edited February 10, 2000).]

Yeah lyin eyes is good, but the song that's been stuck in my head has the line" "hopeless romantic here we go again." "But after awhile you're looking the other way." Bits and pieces of the song keep ringing in my ears, but I haven't been able to remember the whole chorus yet.

This is probably a no brainer but...
The song you danced your first dance to, as a married couple, at your wedding.
For me it is "Can't Help Falling In Love", by Elvis.
Or any song that the two of you considered to be *your song*.
Other than that the one that gets to me the worst is.... "You've Lost That Lovin Feeling" by the Rightous Brothers.
Now I'm going to go listen to Gloria Gaynor sing to me about how I don't need him any more. Ohhhhh Yeahhhhh!! Just watched Top Gun the other night when that song came on. We're in recovery and I welled up. Husband and I sang it together.
There's a country music song I heard while at an amusement park this summer that actually had me balling right in front of his family. Wasn't a big country music fan before that point so don't know who originally sang it or what the title is, but it was very beautiful and heart wrenching all at the same time. it's a male vocalist.
Our first dance song at the wedding actually has to do with the trials and tribulations of marriage, and the absolute joy of "love's recovery". It is still a song of hope to me, but it has taken on new meaning.

Ok what about "Torn between two lovers" - yeugh my most unfavourite song right now. My wedding song was "Three time a Lady" by the Commodores. I still remember with great happiness our wedding night. Still love my Husband!!

Beth, I'm sorry but heading the "songs to stay away from" list in my case is " any country music".
You see, my H never really liked country and I was never a big fan, but used to enjoy some, until the ow enters the story and turns up country is her favorite music.
I'm afraid I change stations or turn off the radio if I hear any, and it still triggers a bit of sadness and pain.
During the affair my H started loving country and even bought a couple of cd's that I promptly threw in the garbage when things got better with us. As for him, he's back to his normal"I don't like country" , and I hope he stays that way [Linked Image from marriagebuilders.com]
Kat

Well, here's one that made me cry in the months after I found out about my wife's affair. Most of you probably haven't heard of it but it's by Ted Hawkins.
Good and Bad
Living is good
When you have someone to live with
Laughter is bad
When there is no one there to share it with
Talking is bad
If you've got no one to talk to
Dying is good
When the one you love grows tired of you
Sugar is no good
Once it's cast among the white sand
What's the point
In pulling the gray hairs from among the black strands
When you're old
You shouldn't walk in the fast lane
Oh ain't it useless
To keep trying to draw true love from that man
He'll hurt you
Yes just for the sake of hurting you
And he'll hate you
If you try to love him just the same
He'll use you
And everything you have to offer him
On your way girl
Get out and find you someone new

Don't remember the title or recognize the singer, but I keep hearing it over the loudspeakers in the local supermarket. A couple of the lines go something like: "Please don't leave me/ "I'll do anything to get you back." Drives me crazy.
Not this betrayed.
--Wex

The one my ex-H played for me:
Break your heart by Barenaked Ladies:
The bravest thing I've ever done was to run away and hide.
But not this time. Not this time.
The weakest thing I've ever done
was to stay right by your side. Just like this time, and every time.
I couldn't tell you I was happy you were gone
So I lied and said that I missed you when we were apart
I couldn't tell you so, I had to lead you on.
But I didn't mean to break your heart.
And if, if, if I always seem distracted
Like my mind is somewhere else.
That's because it's true.
yes its true.
Its this stupid pride that makes me feel
like I have to follow through
even half-assedly, loving you.
Why must I always speak in tender kind of rhymes,
when I guess I just should have come out and told you right from the start.
You say "what did you think I was gonna do, curl up and die just because of you? I'm not that weak you know. What did you think I was gonna do, try to make you love me as much as I love you? How could you be so wrong? You arrogant man. What do you think that I am? My heart will be fine. Just stop wasting my time."
And now I know that you will be ok, and that I've got what I want
and that is rid of you.
Good bye.
And it is not cause I'll be missing you that makes me fall apart.
It is just that I didn't mean to break your heart. No I didn't mean to break your heart.
..........
Great guy, huh?
