Honesty in counseling?
D/D was 01/17/01 – can’t bore you with all the facts but a general summary includes W confessing to being with two men from 07/20/00 to D/D – our sex was Two times a day during & since this period. She is 48 & I 51 — Lots of Wild sex – Lots of discussion early about potential of Sexual Addiction. First counselor suggested book about sexual addiction & it seemed obvious to me this was more than a possibility, but in fact something we both suffer from IN varying degrees. Most people that learn about the details agree that this is A REAL issue. I am at least an enabling co-dependent if not showing symptoms of sexoaholic myself.
The problem I’m having is that she. I feel, is in denial, big time & she says her current Counselor does not think this is a problem. I’m not a therapist, but when I describe how my wife is, others also agree that she also suffers from a personality disorder know as Narcissism, which makes it very difficult for her to admit wrong doings & seek solutions.
I was told that because I asked too many questions about her counseling, it was putting too much pressure on her that it was more for me, than her. Now all discussions are to be confidential, just between her & Counselor. When I first talked with Counselor I told him first C was considering SA & I was asked to relay to my W what I said & I did. My wife was leaving for church mission trip as a leader for High School kids & I thought I better check to see if this SA was a consideration. This is when I learned that he does not think it is a problem – according to my W at least.
What do You think, do I go around my W & talk with C about this? Frankly, I think she might be a little embarrassed to share all the details of her wild sex life with others & me. What good is the counseling if she’s not being honest?? It is always a very tension filled discussion anytime this comes up & W gets upset with attitude I’m accusing her of being a slut & no meaningful discussion about potential of big problem is achieved. Any suggestions??
Thanks!
Peace be with you!
HH

HH:
Honesty is the bedrock of the MB philosophy. Without it, you stand about as much chance as a grass hut in a hurricane.
Godspeed,
STL
