I received this in an email this morning!

quote:
Read this and pass it along. Print it out. Carry it with you. Hold your head high.

This, from a Canadian newspaper, is worth sharing.
America: The Good Neighbor.
Widespread but only partial news coverage was given
recently to a remarkable editorial broadcast from
Toronto by Gordon Sinclair, a Canadian television
commentator. What follows is the full text of his
trenchant remarks as printed in the Congressional
Record:
"This Canadian thinks it is time to speak up for the
Americans as the most generous and possibly the
least appreciated people on all the earth.
Germany, Japan and, to a lesser extent, Britain and
Italy were lifted out of the debris of war by the
Americans who poured in billions of dollars and
forgave other billions in debts. None of these
countries is today paying even the interest on its
remaining debts to the United States.
When France was in danger of collapsing in 1956, it
was the Americans who propped it up, and their
reward was to be insulted and swindled on the
streets of Paris. I was there. I saw it.
When earthquakes hit distant cities, it is the
United States that hurries in to help. This spring,
59 American communities were flattened by tornadoes.
Nobody helped.
The Marshall Plan and the Truman Policy pumped
billions of dollars! into discouraged countries. Now
newspapers in those countries are writing about the
decadent, warmongering Americans.
I'd like to see just one of those countries that is
gloating over the erosion of the United States
dollar build its own airplane. Does any other
country in the world have a plane to equal the
Boeing Jumbo Jet, the Lockheed Tri-Star, or the
Douglas DC10? If so, why don't they fly them? Why do
all the International lines except Russia fly
American Planes?
Why does no other land on earth even consider
putting a man or woman on the moon? You talk about
Japanese technocracy, and you get radios. You talk
about German technocracy, and you get automobiles.
You talk about American technocracy, and you find
men on the moon -! not once, but several times -
and safely home again.
You talk about scandals, and the Americans put
theirs right in the store window for everybody to
look at. Even their draft-dodgers are not pursued
and hounded. They are here on our streets, and most
of them, unless they are breaking Canadian laws, are
getting American dollars from ma and pa at home to
spend here.
When the railways of France, Germany and India were
breaking down through age, it was the Americans who
rebuilt them. When the Pennsylvania Railroad and the
New York Central went broke, nobody loaned them an
old caboose. Both are still broke.
I can name you 5000 times when the Americans raced
to the help of other people in trouble. Can you name
me even one time when someone else raced to the
Americans in trouble? I don't think there was
outside help even during the San Francisco
earthquake.
Our neighbors have faced it alone, and I'm one
Canadian who is damned tired of hearing them get
kicked around. They will come out of this thing with
their flag high. And when they do, they are entitled
to thumb their nose at the lands that are gloating
over their present troubles. I hope Canada is not
one of those."
Stand proud, America!

Please use this and share this as you see fit!!!

Hi everybody,
I can name you 5000 times when the Americans raced
to the help of other people in trouble. Can you name
me even one time when someone else raced to the
Americans in trouble?
YES. I can.
I just want to point out that Article 5 of NATO has been approved which basically means that a hit on one country is considered a hit on all. Every NATO country stands WITH America.
I also want to point out that in every European country, today has been an official day of mourning with moments of silence being observed in cities, towns, villages, airports and public places.
I also want to point out that many sports and social events at local and national levels have been cancelled out of respect for the victims of this terrible crime.
I also want to point out that British, German and French forces are all on alert and ready to strike back WITH America. And we will.
I also want to point one example, that Bertelsmann, a German company, has donated $1million to the victims of this tragedy.
I also want to point out that many more fund raising efforts are underway in Europe.
And I could name you thousands more. The text you have posted is not correct. Sorry.
- Freddy.
The text was written by Canadian reporter Gordon Sinclair in 1973. Gordon Sinclair died in 1984.
So the text is correct, and most of it amazingly holds true to the events prior to Tuesday.

And this isn't correct either:-
Statement: I'd like to see just one of those countries that is gloating over the erosion of the United States
dollar build its own airplane.
In Europe, the Dollar is seen as very strong. We are pained at the poor performance of the Euro.
The latest plane that was built in Europe is called the Euro2000 fighter. It was a joint effort by many nations of Europe. Saab build fighters, so does Harrier. There's also DASA which builds fighters. Fokker build private jets and small commerical airplanes.

Statement: Does any other country in the world have a plane to equal the Boeing Jumbo Jet, the Lockheed Tri-Star, or the
Douglas DC10?
What about the Airbus - that's a pure European effort.
Again, the letter you put out is false. It carries false statements and raises prejudices against other nations which are not true.
The world stands with America in this time of pain. This was an attack on every civilised nation of the world and we are all reeling from the blow.
- Freddy.

I just wanted to point out that this editorial was originally printed in 1973 and was addressing the American Red Crosses financial problems at the time. It has been widely circulated since the tragedy in NYC and DC, and while the sentiment is nice, it is a bit dated as far as it's accuracy.

All the newspapers I've seen this week in Europe have been discussing the terrible events in NY. None, even over the recent months have shown anything about war mongering Americans.
Please, also remember that in the Balkans and the war in Kuwait, British and French forces were heavily committed. In the Balkans this was joined by nearly every European country. Including - in the end - Germany.
In this terrible disaster Britain has reportedly lost 100 people - there was a memorial in London in today in which the queen participated - and I heard today on the radio that Germany is reporting 700 people missing, presumed dead in the NY.
I'll keep you posted.
- Freddy.

Lexxy,
I have two points 1. that America should hold its head high but should also carry the truth with you and this isn't the truth 2. this type of information spreads prejudices which can result in hate and we've seen the result of that this week.
What worries me is that the world needs to provide a measured response to this attack and not a knee jerk reaction. And this means keeping a clear head and thinking about what we're doing. I know we'll do the right thing - I just hope that forces with other agenda's don't get things too stirred up.
- Freddy

You said you haven't read anything about warmongering Americans....please go back and read that this was published in 1973 -- go back and review your papers from then....
I greatly appreciate Free2BMe post--regardless of its historical accuracy given that it was written 30 years ago. Most Americans appreciate the support of others.
However, you seem to be implying that all civilized countries feel the same pain as Americans?? Freddy -- maybe this isn't the best time??

I thought the article was OK because so many countires do hate the USA. I have read various posts on the internet from some people in China and Hong Kong and their initial reaction is that they were very happy when the New York tragedy happened. The reason is that they do not appreciate what the USA has done and did. This article was also sent to those people so that they might have some sympathy for all those innocent people that died. As it stands many people that don't like, appreciate or understand Americans are veryy happy at what happened to the USA. In this light the article cannot hurt and may help to change some wrong attitudes. This was and still is the purpose of that article. Now many people want to come to the USA to live yet at the same time they bad mouth the USA as being a bad country that sticks it's nose into other people's affairs. But when someone is in trouble, who can they depend on for help?

Geez, Freddy - I wasn't looking for a debate! I'm sorry if I touched something in you today. You need to also change your quotes because you quoted me as saying these words in one of your responses - I just copied it.
I am truly amazed at the outpouring of support with the attack this week from so many countries!
Have a GREAT day!
