I just found out my wife had an affair about 2 months ago. She says they only had sex 1 time and he used a condom, but I still asked her to get tested for STD's. Am I out of line? She says I am because she has no symptoms of any diseases.

No, not out of line at ALL.
My H said he used condoms with his OW, but i made him get tested anyway. he didn't like it, but he did it. Turns out he NEVER used a condom at all.
Tell her it is YOUR health you are worried about, and that you have every right to ask her to do this.
By the way, AIDS doesn't have any symptoms for quite a while.........if I were you, I would not have unprotected sex with her until she has the tests.

Ummm, you don't necessarily have to be symptomatic when you have contracted an STD. Why does your wife not know this?
In fact, the STDs that ly dormant without immediate noticable symptoms are the more catastrophic ones.
GET TESTED no matter what she says.
Sorry for your situation.
God Bless,

Welcome to Marriage Builders eldonjon72,
Definitely insist on testing. Sadly, there is no way you can know for sure if your W is telling you the truth. You must protect yourself and any future children you may have with W.
My understanding is that she should be retested in a few months. You probably should refrain from intimacy with your W until the tests come back negative then protect yourself with condom for a few months.
If you want to talk about other issues, post again. Have you read the information on the main web site? It's excellent.
Take care,
Estes

Definately get tested. But let me ask you something. If you had an affair would you want to tell your spouse that you HADN'T used a condom? My point is to not take her word for it, just go get tested.

hello eldon,
My rec is that both of you get tested for stds. Unless of course you had no sexual relations with her since the beginning of the affair?
You can go to the cdc website for the current recommendations. www.cdc.gov
The two of you should be using condoms.....and will be for quite sometime.

OK, My $0.02
Even if they did use a condom, get tested.
Why? Condom's are only about 90% (maybe more, maybe less) effective in preventing pregnancy. Guess what, the things you are worried about are a lot smaller than a sperm. So any failure of the condom, no matter how small can make you vulnerable.
A condom is much better than nothing, but it is NOT perfect even for the big guys (sperm).
So have her get tested and you get tested no matter what.
Hope both of you are healthy.
God Bless,
JL
