Absolutely. Gore is not perfect, but I think he would be far better than Bush.

Funny then how his own party won't even support him. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Roll Eyes]" src="images/icons/rolleyes.gif" /> Sorry nellie1, Gore is a moron who would've used the attacks on Sept. 11, 2001 as an excuse to raise taxes for some idiotic social program. Probably taking money from the military while he did it.

I, too, am relieved that a decent man is in office for a change. I have no confidence in Al Gore and shudder to think where we would be if he were in office. He is not much better in the character department and actively and overtly supported Clinton in addition to breaking campaign finance laws. As we have seen with the Clinton fiasco, character DOES COUNT.

That is what I am trying to say too. Character does count. I for one feel better having a christian as our leader. A true christian, not what we call these Sunday christians. Appearances only. Clinton, didn't seem to be sincere in his biblical statements. Saying sorry to those who lost loved ones. I personally didn't believe much of what he said. And I guess you could say that Hillary doesn't believe much of what he says either.

Carolyn - I will pray for your daughter. At church this morning, we have set a time to pray for our President, and our military. Next week I will put her name in as Carolyns/daughter. This is a difficult situation for Bush to determine if there should be war or not. Knowing that there wall be casualties, and families that will be dealing with their dead loved ones.

If we go to war, I suspect the threats will increase, and the security is going to increase. It should, because you never know who is around you that has a lethal weapon of any kind.

For many of us, running away to a safe place would be the answer. But where is the safe place to be? Maybe in space. Maybe underground.

In todays sermon = How Does Christ Change US?
Rom. 12:2 GN Do not conform yourselves to the standards of this world, but let God transfrom you inwardly by a complete change of your mind. Then you will be able to know the will of God-what is good and is pleasing to him and is perfect.
a. Christ changes us one defect at a time.
b. Christ gives us victory one day at a time.
c. Christs power not willpower wins out.
d. Christ leads me to focus on what I want not what I don't want.
e. Christ leads me to be intent on doing good not just feeling good.
f. Christ desires to surround me with people who help me...not hinder me.
g. Christs followers are a work in progress not yet perfected.
The message today was a source of changing ourselves.

Does that mean that you would not vote for someone just because he or she was Jewish, or Pagan, or Agnostic, etc.?

There are plenty of reasons why I am not qualified to be president, but my religious beliefs (or lack thereof) are not among them.

Of course not! Bush has shown his compassion for humanity. He is a religious man, and believes that God will help us. If we were to get a Jewish man in the seat, we would believe in his religious beliefs (don't mean we follow his beliefs) as well as his human compassion and intellect. But all in all, we don't know how the man will conduct this nation, until he is in office, and proceeds.

I was stating that at this time in our nation, it is good to have a christian president, and to know that he prays with his wife every morning, and to read the bible everyday. To me this is comfort, and I thank God everyday for his prayers.

I wish more families would do this. That is something that I have missed my whole life growing up. And also in our marriage. I am looking to God to help my marriage, and to help my H, and to help my children see that God is our keeper, and our saviour. My children have expressed that they do not believe going to church is necessary, or even reading the bible. This is upsetting, and there is nothing I can do, but give it to God.

President Bush, is giving to God, our Nations problems. He has a hard job, and he is praying for guidance. I would never want to be in his position of decision. Of course I am not a leader, I am basically a follower.

Just like voting locally for governor. I look at the quality of the person, and I do look for compassion. A compassionate person is one who feels the pain of the nation. Feels the pain of those who have lost their family.

Just diving into some psychological issues of humans. I may be out in left field.

Thank you so much for your prayers. When our loved ones enlist in the military they know that there is always a chance that they may have to fight for there country, but hope they never do, as we all do.

IMO i don't believe it has anything to do with a specific religious belief. But even you have to admit that character, morals, and compassion say alot about a man. If he has a christian background he most likely has all three of these traits.

Maybe i am being bias as my D is serving and my H is retired military but wasn't Gore the one that went to Vietnam with a body guard?

Hi All,

Well, I hate to get into politics, but I would like to offer a bit of how I see things. First a disclaimer: I doubt Gore would have done as well as Bush as done. Not because of is IQ or lack of it, not because he is of another party, but simply I am afriad he would follow Clinton in one critical aspect. He would have not surrounded himself with men and women with the experience and capabilities that Bush has done.

Clinton had no one on his immediate staff with ANY military experience. A critical flaw in this day and age.

Now to my view of the Presidency. I firmly believe that the "position dictates." I have read and I can believe given some portions of what I do for a living, that all Presidents begin to see the world differently when they get "The Briefing". You know the officer that follows the President around with a brief case. It has a variety of nick names. Well, from what I have heard from insiders once each newly elected President gets briefed on what is in that brief case and the reasons for it existence, they start to see the world differently. Hence a lot of campaign talk just goes out the window when the reality of the world really comes to bear on them.

What I do think we vote on is style. You may like Gore's style better than Bush or Bush better than Gore's. But do you really think that Gore could have responded much differently than Bush to what happened at 9/11? I don't. I don't think Gore would have gotten as good of advice, but the "position dictates" means he would have had to respond in kind.

No President yet, has helped the economy. If you believe they can, the explain why we have had depressions, recessions, etc. No elected official in this country wants to see anything but a full bore gang busters economy. More tax dollars to buy votes with.

I could go on, but let's just say I am glad we have a President that was smart enough to surround himself with competent people and he listens to them. I am also glad that we have one that isn't shying away from very hard very painful decisions. This isn't the time to stand around and wring our hands.

So I repeat what many others have said as well as my self. Thanks and prayers for those serving in the military are certainly warrented. But, prayers for our leaders are surely needed. It is my hope that they are guided to the correct decisions.

God Bless,

JL

I think there are probably plenty of people like me who avoided replying to some of the posts in this thread such as the one where someone called Gore a "moron". Don't forget, Gore got more votes than Bush.

Though couched in your calm, reserved language, your post is a political opinion and as such it is filtered through the prism of your own point of view. I would think you would have better judgement than to try to pass off statements like "(Bush)isn't shying away from very hard very painful decisions". Where was he last week during the anti-abortion rally?

Personaly, I think this thread should have been locked long ago.

I have seen no evidence to suggest any correlation between character and whether or not someone is Christian. Look at how many WS's on this board alone are Christian. There are people of good character who are Christian, Atheist, Muslim, etc. - and conversely, there are people of bad character in each of these groups.

He probably wasn't at the anti-abortion rally cause he had better (and vastly more important) things to do. His position on abortion is already known, and I suspect there are dozens (if not hundreds) of ralley's around important issues every week in america. I agree with the poster's observation about management ability. A president has very little ability to directly affect anything by themself. Their important contribution is the skill with which the select a competent team to lead us, and then selling the policy decisions arising from their input. Style wise, who can say, some liked gore some bush, but management capability was a no-brainer IMO...and indeed bush did deliver. As for the purposes of this board, I know of no restriction in OT discussions. If one can talk about the weather, recipes, where to vacation, and on and on...why not an occassional discussion about politics?

about Christian corelation to character traits...would be a very interesting study. I think there is a correlation but not so much in the sense of someone is "better" than someone else. More like a larger sense of common good. Many religious and cultural and nationalistic attitudes are very much us vs them, almost tribal. Christians embrace (or should) all people, and the well-being of everyone and societies in general. One outcome of that (IMO) is the development of pluralistic societies (the most obvious is america). I do nbt think it is an accident that the greatest experiment in self-determination as a way of life is America, and that the government/legal system that allows this was built essential on a Judeo/Christian ethic by Christians. Yes, some of the founding fathers were not Christian, but they promoted Christian concepts, and sold them to a predominantly Christian population.

Anyone can practice Christian precepts, and if stripping away the religon call themselves atheists, humanists, whatever, but doesn't really change the source of their ethical beliefs, or the character of their actions.

As for Islam, Buddhism, and other "large scale beliefs", what has any of them ever done to promote self-determination, and set people free from oppressive/intrusive govt?

Dear Faith,

I know how frightened many are of war. But i just wanted you to know that. ( as a soldier, (previous) when i went to Desert storm before. I was scared but proud to go. I truely believe if we do not take the war to them, They will eventually bring the war to us. My children will grow up in a world where 9-11 is a daily threat, I would gladly go again to protect my freedom, and their feeling of safty. By the way. DId you see where those American people are going over there to be HUMAN SHEILDS. WHAT A LOAD OF CRAP. HOW UN AMERICAN> I SAY DON"T LET THEM COME HOME!!!!!!!

GOD BLESS AMERICAN AND GEORGE W. BUSH.

Not - no I didn't see them go over their for human shields.

Responding to why this thread came up. All I was getting into was the character of a person, and common sense, and creating safeness for our country. We BS's need to feel safe, look at the character of our spouse, and see if our spouse has common sense. There is a correlation between the Presidents Character, why we chose or didnot choose to vote for Bush. The same here, why did our spouses decide to vote for their OP, and why did they decide to stray from the one they made a committment to, vows, till death do us part. Where is the wayward spouses christian values, where is their vow that they stated at the altar.

President Bush stated his 'vows' quote unquote, when he was elected into presidency. To me, his christian beliefs are important, demonstrating that God is #1 in his life. I should think, to us christians, that is a good character value.

If you want this thread stopped, I am more than willing to say lets stop.
