JL, don't know if you're around, but guess what...After 18 months, with a 6 month break in between re knee injury and surgery...I finally did it!

Broke 100 I mean. Last Friday in the pouring rain and 30 mph winds I shot an 96, and yesterday in gorgeous weather, shot a 94!

And best of all...My new Big Berthas arrive tomorrow...got 'em on ebay..426.00!! (irons-complete set!

OH, I guess I should mention my 200+ drives..outshot the boys 50% of the time!

Hehehe... The LPGA awaits!
I love this game...you were right..practice the short game!

A monster has been created.

Can breaking 90 be far behind? Nope, I predict it will come soon. It is all in the short game Twyla, it really is. New clubs are soo much fun. I do envy you. I am playing tomorrow for the first time in 6 months. I will need a lot of luck to beat the sandbaggers I am playing with.

Actually, golf is a lot about confidence and playing within your limits. It sounds like you gotten to that point. Good Luck

You have sand baggers too, huh? Lord, they drive me nuts. There is a guy in one of our clubs whose handicap always manages to stay around the 28 mark and yet always seems to score in the 80's.

Lug, like you, acknowledges the monster. But, it is somehow poignant that all this golf stuff was simply a way for us to spend more recreational fun together during the "hell" of recovery. We really did connect...not hard to do on a golf course or driving range. Pretty valuable to have something to take you away from the angst!

OK..will let you know how I progress. My goal is to keep up with 30 mins short game and 20 minutes putting practice 3 times a week...and break the 90's by 4/4...incidentally the day I lost my virginity. But that's another story.

OK, JL...want to hear how the game went...did you play well? Was it enough to fire up the bug and get you back out there?

The new clubs are wonderful...bottom weighted, so they swing so balanced. Am having fun relearning distances and feel.

I've always wanted to become a good golfer, but have only played a bit of best ball with no real lessons, one or two in a lifetime? could there be hope for me? WH and I used to go play a lot, our best ball that is, maybe it is something we can do together?

Gosh, Honey, if it was something you enjoyed together, I'd say go for it. I literally picked it as a last resort for us. He had played...maybe 6-7 times a year and always wanted to practice more. I thought it would be the most boring sport in the world, but decided to go along, just for some extra time together.

It turned out to be a really good way for us to relax around each other. At the driving range or on the short par3 we would play in the beginning, I purposely never brought up A or relationship or anything to do with us...went at it with the mindset of pure enjoyment for both of us. After a while..maybe 6 months or so, we would discuss some relationship stuff occasionally, but always in a lighter or sort of 3rd person way. Nothing too heavy to spoil the afternoon.

So, yes, I really recommend taking up a hooby together especially in the frame of mind that its purpose is to have some fun and simply some TIME with each other.
