Hi All,

As you know I love theLordOfTheRings and I equate theOneRingThatRuleThemAll with A. No mortal is immune to it. I stumbled this website that has the song when I try to post for MTheart. This is very despaired song and not for newbie. Here is the Gollum's Song. Grap plenty of tissues .... you has been warned. Please comment.

To the WS and the OP the A is "precious" to them. Hence the bizarre outbursts similar to Bilbo, Gollum and eventually Frodo. If you don't get rid of the A(ring) it eventually ruins you. LOTR is a great tale and it has some simple but universal truths we can all learn from.

WOW!! I've disected a lot of the meaning from LOTR many, many times. I've never made that connection before. Amazing. Especially since I've read the story like a zillion times since I was 10. thanx Red <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="images/icons/wink.gif" />

Hi redhat -

I haven't listened to this yet, bcus I am at work, but in the last 2 years, being a big Ring fan myself, since childhood, and with 2 boys who love the movies, I also have seen the analogy of the Ring as the Affair, and Gollum as the person having the affair, and what he becomes is what temptation does to a person. For me, the Ring represents Temptation - temptation to possess for yourself something that you have no moral right to own. Giving in to that temptation destroys you, and even drives some people to murder. I don't say that lightly - we have 2 cases on trial here in the UK right now - in one, the BH stabbed his WW (she survived - he is a policeman). In the other, the BW walked into the beauty salon which the OW ran, and shot and killed her with a sawed-off shotgun, then sat down next to the body and TXT her WH to tell him she had done it. In both cases, the couples had been close friends. All the couples had children.

An affair has the malignant power to destroy the WS and everything he ever valued in life. Like the Ring, it holds out the promise of a rich and fulfilling life - everything you always wanted. But it destroys you in the end. I wish someone who writes publically about marriage and affairs would use this analogy to highlight the effects of affairs - it might get a lot of publicity, which would be enormously valuable - there is so much in our society which romanticizes affairs.

Thanks for bringing this up.
LIR
