Tell me about this. My goodness, girl. Are you OK? I knew I had been missing you around the board.

Hi Susan ~
Yep, I'm ok! Well...I will be ok anyway!
When you have a stroke at age 34, doctors kinda take it a little seriously
I came home from work one night, and had what I thought was a migraine with the usual visual difficulties that happen with a classic migraine.
My vision never came back though. I went to an eye doctor, and he sent me for an MRI, and thats how we discovered that it was a stroke.
My vision IS improving on its own now, and my neurologist said the best thing for me is to keep reading and typing, to train my brain to compensate for the damage.
I've been thru 0312849023842390 tests, and my cardiologist found that I have a very large patent foramen ovale - a hole in between the chambers of my heart. They think this is the cause. So I have to have surgery to repair this.
I'm on lots of fun medications like Coumadin. Yuck.
There's some additional questions that havent been answered, but I work for a large pharmaceutical company, in the Cardiovascular Clinical Research department...specifically on the Women's Cardiovascular Health Initiative.
Is it Odd...or is it God? If my husband hadn't lost his job just after we reconciled, our recovery would have been much slower. So here we are with a healing, stronger marriage, and I have his love and support. (He jokes that I have a hole in my heart that he can't fill, but he'd be willing to try with a nice tube of bathtub sealer!) and I had to go find a job to pay bills (I used to be a SAHM). And now we know why I found a job where I did! I even told my boss at my first interview that I had no idea where I was going with a career, that God had a plan, and He hadn't filled me in on my future! She hired me because I said thath - she'd been praying that morning for God to send her help, and there I was in her office that afternoon. And now we know that it was a life and death reason why I got that job!
This week the American Heart Association is having their convention in Chicago. I've got a large group of the leading experts in women's cardiovascular health discussing my condition. I just got off the phone with my boss, who is there, having lunches and dinners with all these women! She's getting alot of great information and offers of help.
So God's taking care of me. So the short answer is yes, I'm fine - God's given me everything I need to make it through this crisis!
And in the meantime, as my eyes get better (I don't think theres even many typos in this post yay!) I am helping myself if I keep reading and typing here!

Bless your sweet heart. I am sorry to hear of this. I am glad you are doing ok.
I hope the doctors are able to find a permanent solution to your problem.
Thank you for all of your contributions here on MB. You are in my prayers.

BR:
Wow!
A friend of mine at work had a stroke during a very stressful time about 5 or 6 years ago. He was always worried about his performance, and always a major overachiever. He's mellowed considerably, and now has a family to care for!
I'm glad to hear you're going to be okay and you're in good hands, -Qfwfq

Well here I am, late to the party again!!
Now, Miss BR, I am **sooo happy** to hear that you are on the mend, and staying upbeat. That's gotta help the healing!!
Just know you're being thought about and prayed for by someone who thinks you're neato!
Edit: Haha, I accidently typed "throwed about" instead of "thought about"... hahahahahahahahaha... you wouldn't like that, now would ya, BR?? [ April 07, 2003, 08:46 PM: Message edited by: new_beginning ]

hi guys,
thanks for checkin in on me:)
Here's a cyber spanking for you sheryl!
I go to see my surgeon on the 14th, and he'll tell me whether or not I have open heart surgery or a catheterized repair to my heart.
Consdiering the catheter thing doesn't even require an overnight stay at eh hospital...guess what I'm hoping for?
