Is there any hope of plan A working if my husband is an Alcoholic. His drinking has gotten much worse since he started this A, and he is drinking more and more each weekend. He also drinks during the week after work, but the weekends are really boozers. Is this the guilt getting to him?

Thanks

I cheated on my H who was a recovering alcoholic and drank for 2 days after he found out and then once in awhile. Then last June he started seeing a girl that cooked in a bar he went to and his drinking has gotten worse too. He say because of what I did, but I think it is what he is doing now.

Look up an MBer by the user name of BrambleRose.

She has helped many who are dealing with the issue of alcoholism. If you submit a thread with her name on it, she may respond.

It is also good for you to get help so you get support in learning how to cope.

Good advice offered you might also want to read Dr. Harley articles caution about using MB prinicples with a spouse who is an alcholic. Dr. Harley has operated I belive 10 treatment centers. May be in your best interest to check out his articles on the website you assist and or contact him. Well worth as he could can really advise you as it is not a easy journey having alcholic WS. My situation turned into a nightmare, but then again there are many who have had great success.

Prayers to keep your heart comforted during this painful time.

Bonita, I am an alcoholic with 18 years of sobriety and I can tell you that Plan A is the probably the worst thing you can do to an alcoholic. It is only a ticket for them to continue their destruction. Alcoholics do not respond to overtures the same way a non-drinking person does. We view any concessions on your part as simply a new opportunity for exploitation since we are patently INCAPABLE of growing or responding to your growth while we are practicing.
