OK...here is my problem..last week, my wife was out of town for the week. We have been married for 3 years and together for 5. We have had some up and downs but for the most part not bad. Well, I went out with some friends to a bar and got absolutely #$it-faced. I'm talking bombed out of my mind...probably 10 beers and many, many shots. It was the worst I have been in a long long time. Anyway, a women that we had met there was hitting on me and kissed me. I was floored and but was kinda flattered. I wasn't trying to pick her up or anything, it just happened. There were periods that I blacked out during the night that scare me to death! I remember bits a pieces of the night but not much. I think she was kissing me a couple of times but I know for that it went no further. NO SEX..NOTHING ELSE! Anyway, I have had HUMONGOUS guilt for putting myself in that situation and not stopping it. HUGE. I have been sick since then. I told my wife about it and she was understandably very pissed off but more so that I put myself in that situation rather than actually doing it. It has made me realize that I have been sleepwalking through my marriage and taking my wife for granted. I have been neglecting her. Coming home from work...I had been reading the paper...watching TV...internet....bed. Basically ignoring her. I love her so much and she is all I have in this world. That is why I will have guilt until the day I die. I have never ever even thought of cheating on her and it makes me sick just thinking about it. I have vowed to stop drinking and this is my wake up call. I know people say "once a cheater, always a cheater" but I don't believe that. This has almost ruined my life and I never even had sex with this woman...just a stupid drunken encounter. Gosh I'm so mad. Has anyone else had a similar situation?

You are by definition an alcoholic.

Go to an AA meeting, and when they ask if there are any "newcomers" .... identify yourself. You will get tremendous love and support from others who have done what you did .... and worse.

This is your wake up call to AA buddy. It is NOT ENOUGH to stop drinking. Commit yourself to a minimum of 6 meetings before you make any sort of decision.

Best of luck to you. There is a bright future awaiting you ... do you have the courage to try it out?

With my sincere good wishes....
