"Today is a Good Day 2 Die"
Well, not really, but it is a good day. My W told me she wants 2 frame a painting I stared som 19 years ago but never finished, and hang it up. She doesn't even want it finished! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Cool]" src="images/icons/cool.gif" />
Hanta Yo is the title of a book by Ruth Beebe Hill about a Lakotah band before whites settled the Dakotahs in late 1700s and early 1800s. One of my favorite fiction books of all time.
Very spiri2al!
I'm working on the house with her 2day, and it's a good day. ...but maybe not a "2 die" day! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="images/icons/wink.gif" />

Funny 2Long, I own a bookstore in Lakota Territory, Paha Sapa, nearby the present reservations, and one of my Native American customers saw Hanta Yo on the shelf this week and asked me if I would destroy it since it is a horrible and inaccurate representation of his culture. And, I've heard this view many times.
So, glad you enjoyed the book, but don't take it as gospel of the Lakota people. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="images/icons/smile.gif" />

Lor:
No, I don't take it as 'gospel' because Ruth Beebel Hill is white, and admitedly created the story from a Lakotah hide record of historic events.
Gospel? We could go on forever about Christian 'gospel' I suppose, but maybe it's not wise 2 do so. I am one of those that "understood" the movie "The Last Temptation of Christ". It was an excellent story, and not intended 2 be a factual account or blasphemy. Good, solid, "religious fiction", if you will.
I worked on the Navajo reservation for a number of years. They're people, 2. Just like you and me. Some more religious than others. Some more spiri2al than others. I'm more "Navajo" than RM, who's half navajo by descent, and I'm 100% "honkey".

Hmmm, maybe gospel wasn't the word I wanted, how about if I change my meaning to "true account".
I posted because I thought it was quite a coincidence that I'd had a conversation about this book so recently, when it's been out-of-print for a long time.
Thanks for being sure I'm people <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="images/icons/smile.gif" /> .
I liked the movie Last Temptation of Christ. Willem Dafoe <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="images/icons/smile.gif" /> . I also liked Satan portrayed as a pretty, young girl.

But I just realized: Hanta yo doesn't mean "it's a good day 2 die", it means "Clear the way" or "The clear way."
Kind of different.

Besides which, "Today is a good day to die" is a Klingon expression, not a Native American expression.

Nuh uh! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="images/icons/wink.gif" />
It was a particular Souix's invention, if I remember correctly.
