Take all this as just information. I am not a doctor or in the medical proffesion. This is just stuff I found on the internet.
*Note- I did SEE a doctor once and I have been in a hospital. [Linked Image from marriagebuilders.com]
Wellbutrin Side Effects
Side Effects of Wellbutrin
Side effects cannot be anticipated. If any develop or change in intensity, inform your doctor as soon as possible. Only your doctor can determine if it is safe for you to continue taking Wellbutrin.
Seizures are perhaps the most worrisome side effect. Wellbutrin was temporarily removed from the market after its initial release due to the occurrence of seizures in some patients.
Although Wellbutrin occasionally causes weight gain, a more common effect is weight loss: Some 28 percent of people who take this medication lose 5 pounds or more. If depression has already caused you to lose weight, and if further weight loss would be detrimental to your health, Wellbutrin may not be the best antidepressant for you.
More common side effects may include:
* Abdominal pain (Wellbutrin SR),
* agitation,
* anxiety (Wellbutrin SR),
* constipation,
* dizziness,
* dry mouth,
* excessive sweating,
* headache,
* loss of appetite (Wellbutrin SR),
* nausea,
* palpitations (Wellbutrin SR),
* vomiting,
* skin rash,
* sleep disturbances,
* sore throat (Wellbutrin SR),
* tremor

Other side effects may include:
* Acne,
* allergic reactions (severe),
* bed-wetting,
* blisters in the mouth and eyes (Stevens-Johnson syndrome),
* blurred vision,
* breathing difficulty,
* chest pain,
* chills,
* complete or almost complete loss of movement,
* confusion,
* dry skin,
* episodes of over-activity,
* elation, or irritability,
* extreme calmness,
* fatigue,
* fever,
* fluid retention,
* flu-like symptoms,
* gum irritation and inflammation,
* hair color changes,
* hair loss,
* hives,
* impotence,
* incoordination and clumsiness,
* indigestion,
* itching,
* increased libido,
* menstrual complaints,
* mood instability,
* muscle rigidity,
* painful ejaculation,
* painful erection,
* retarded ejaculation,
* ringing in the ears,
* sexual dysfunction,
* suicidal ideation,
* thirst disturbances,
* toothache,
* urinary disturbances,
* weight gain or loss
___________________________________________
Prozac Side Effects
Frequent - Prozac (Fluoxetine) Side Effects
* Allergic or Toxic: Rash, Pruritus (skin inflammation).
* Neurological: Headache, Tremor, Dizziness, Asthenia.
* Behavioral: Insomnia, Anxiety, Nervousness, Agitation, Abnormal dreams, Drowsiness and fatigue.
* Autonomic: Excessive sweating
* Gastrointestinal: Nausea, Disturbances of appetite, Diarrhea.
* Respiratory: Bronchitis, Rhinitis (inflammation of the nasal mucous membranes), Yawn.
* Endocrine: Weight loss.
* Musculoskeletal: Muscle pain, Back pain, Joint pain.
* Urogenital: Painful menstruation, Sexual dysfunction, Urinary tract infection, Frequent micturition.
* Miscellaneous: Chills

Infrequent - Prozac (Fluoxetine) Side Effects
Infrequent Prozac side effects occurred in at least 1 in 1000 people.
* Allergic or Toxic: Chills and fever, Urticaria, Maculopapular rash.
* Neurological: Abnormal gait, Ataxia, Akathisia, Buccoglossal syndrome, Hyperkinesia, Hypertonia, incoordination, Neck rigity, extrapyramidal syndrome, Convulsions, Photophobia, Myoclonus, Vertigo, Migraine, Tinnitus, Hypesthesia, Neuralgia, Neuropathy, Acute brain syndrome.
* Behavioral: Confusion, Delusions, Hallucinations, manic reaction, Paranoid reaction, Psychosis, Depersonalization, Apathy, Emotional Lability, Euphoria, Hostility, Amnesia, Increased libido.
* Autonomic: Dry mouth, Constipation, Urinary retention, Vision disturbance, Diplopia, Mydriasis, Hot flushes.
* Cardiovascular: Chest pain, Hypertension, Syncope, Hypotension, Angina pectoris, Arrhythmia, Tachycardia. Thanks for posting this - it is really scary.
I have always been uncomfortable when I read posts that recommended anti-depressants for situational depression.
A number of years back, a father in our area who was on Prozac for clinical depression slit his children's throats and hit his wife over the head with an ax while she slept. By all accounts he had been a loving father. He tried to use the side effects of Prozac in his defense - he was still convicted. I don't know if it was the Prozac or not, but you have to wonder.

Yeah, but IMHO, the problem is that people see all this and think "gee, those must be dangerous". But, look up the side effects for most common drugs, and there's a slew of them too, bcs they have to list everything that might happen, even tho most people have none of the side effects.
I'm all for not taking any drugs unless needed, and researching those you DO take. One of my complaints with my H's physician is that he offers a pill for everything. So, my H will take an antibiotic if he has a mere cold, and at the first sign of rising cholesterol was given drugs instead of advice to exercise and cut out the high-fat diet. (Of course, when he was depressed, he would not consider taking an anti-depressant, and had an affair instead to make himself feel better, but I digress... [Linked Image from marriagebuilders.com] )
IF you are depressed and doing whatever else you can to alleviate it, and it is still enveloping you in darkness, anti-depressants can be very valuable. I was on Zoloft for a while years ago (after resisting it for a quite a long time), and was amazed to find that within a short time I was able to think more clearly and positively about the future, deal with things and move forward, instead of being bogged down in depression. And, after a while on Zoloft (which had no discernable side effets for me personally), I went off it with no problems.
As I said, I do believe in trying non-pharmaceutical methods, but if they do not work for you, don't let the fact that every drug known to man has listed side effects keep you from getting help. Untreated depression itself can have some pretty bad side-effects too.
Kathi
